Katie Couric to leave CBS Evening News

ABC News President Ben Sherwood sent the following email to ABC News staff:

I'm pleased to share important news: Anne Sweeney is announcing at this hour that Katie Couric will join the Disney/ABC Television Group to produce and host a syndicated daytime talk show that will debut in the Fall of 2012.

While her primary mission will be to create and launch the new show, Katie is also joining our team at ABC News this summer, bringing her many talents to some of the most important and interesting stories of the day.

Does this picture mean they'll be no new set or new graphics? CBS need desperately to change the look of CBS Evening News, and a good time to maybe do that is when their host changes...

It's certainly in the pipeline, but sadly there's a bit of a crisis at CBS in that department. From what I've been told it will be refreshed before the end of this year.

There will be some tweaks to the overall format of the programme evident immediately, with more 60 Minutes style reporting.

Surely she is being lined up as the replacement for Barbara Walters? Barbara can't go on forever!
