...to host the 1 o'clock news?

Sounds like a demotion if that happened.

He should be on Newsnight or the sole presenter of the Six.

Given the populist direction the Six has been going of late, I can't see the BBC putting a 'high brow' presenter like Jon Snow on it. At a push, maybe the Ten might suit him more. Personally, I'd take this rumour with a large bucket of salt tho.

You had to laugh the other night with Krishnan's wee joke that Jon didn't find funny.

Krishnan started off - 'Jon Snow has resigned .... Jon Snow ... Secretary of the US Treasury that is'. He had me going for a minute that night!

Jon Snow is likely to leave Channel 4 and join BBC.

Is there any truth in this rumour? Discuss.

I hope not ! Shocked John is an absolutely fantastic and legendary Newscaster. I'm astouded he's been so ITN Loyal (and faithful) - it would be a massive blow to Channel 4 and ITN if he defected! Sad

If I remember right - I'm sure John said he wouldn't work for anyone else but ITN! I guess we'll have to wait and see, if it's true or not. Exclamation

I suppose the question these days is whether Jon is being loyal to ITN or Channel Four? (Would he have stayed presenting had Sky News got the newsgathering contract, with C4 pulling production in-house - which was one option being investigated prior to the current contract with ITN being signed?)

Totally left-field question - but would Desert Island Discs be up his street? (If you've listened to it with Sue Lawley at her best it can be quite a forensic, almost psychiatrist/analyst, style interview)

Doesn't quite strike me as a natural fit - someone like Sue McGregor strikes me as a more natural replacement I suppose - but how about that for a thought?

(I'm not for a moment suggesting it is likely by the way - just an interesting idea to throw into the mix)

Whilst the story could be total balls, I think if it were true, Noggin seems to have hit the nail on the head - everyone was thinking BBC News, but Desert Island Discs does seems like a possibility (didn't he present the male version of Women's hour a few years back for Radio 4 anyway?)

Edit - rts is of course talking about the engagement of Anna Ford and Jon Snow, in the 80's. Can't be any liable to that - there is a pic of them together in the ITN 50 book!!

I seem to remember reading somewhere when Channel 4 announced ITN'd remain their news provider till whenever that Jon Snow had been contracted to stay at ITN. Not sure though

At risk of attempting to assist the most knowledgable person on the forum, I remember reading somewhere that Jon Snow said he's loyal to ITN, and wouldn't go to Sky if they got the Channel 4 contract.

I can't remember where I read this- it could have been media guardian, this forum, or written in blood on the back of an envelope and posted through my front door... so it could be a load of rubbish.

Thanks for that - it kind of feels right that he'd be loyal to ITN - that was my gut feeling.

Jon would fit rather well in desert island discs. I can't see his contract with C4 news restricting him from this - although ITN do have radio interests so that maybe an issue - if the story is true.
If he is to go to the beeb he would have to do something like Question Time or a Sunday AM type prog. Presenting a news bulletin (like the BBC's) would be so restrictive for him. IMO

Jon Snow would probably fit best on Today.

There is another rumour that Eddie Mair already has that position when Humphries goes.

That is, of course, a rumour though.

Why do Popbitch care about a news presenter anyway?

What next - Popbitch with the latest on whether John Prescott's going to resign? Laughing

Indeed, which of course would be fabulous for Today and a bit of a disaster for PM.
