Newsnight broadcasting now from Washington. Camera seemed slightly dodgy just after the titles; Emily Maitlis appeared slightly out of focus, and then the camera pulled back so far that its own autocue was blatantly visible...

Came via the EBU standup positions rather than BBC crews so probably limited with what can be done sadly

ITV’s coverage is now beginning at 3:30pm GMT instead of the previous time of 4pm. Not sure what the extra half hour is going to add to the programme.

I'm just checking the Canadian channels on their special coverage, and I noticed that CBC and CTV News Channel will start their Biden Inauguration coverage earlier than the American TV channels.

CBC's special coverage will start at 10:00am ET, while CTV's special coverage will start even earlier at 09:00am ET.

I think France are leaving it to the news channels with specials on LCI, CNEWS, Franceinfo and BFMTV, although I'm sure the main 8pm bulletins on TF1 and France 2 will cover it in depth.

How do US networks usually cover the events - are they considered celebratory national events, similar to how we'd treat Royal events, with a long history, or more a political formality where the news channels especially remain entrenched in their political views.

I guess the tone will be quite different this year given events of recent weeks.

The President-elect, future First Lady, Vice President-elect and future Second Gentleman are meant to arrive at the Capitol at 10.30am ET / 2.30pm GMT.
