This from Kimmel is superb ...

So much for the daft theory that the late night talk show hosts would be devastated to see him go.

It’s obviously more complex than that. On a personal level I’m sure they’re all happy, you’d also expect them to celebrate on air as it’s on brand as that is what their audience expects. Obviously the writers might have to work a bit harder to come up with good content rather than it being written for them in the future and I’m sure it’ll will have an impact on audiences too. To be honest I’m sure the Trump soap opera won’t be ending just yet, that said I’m not sure there is much mileage left in the subject and I think the world just wants to move on from it now.

That applies here as well.

I’m sure on The Last Leg tomorrow they’ll have a marching band and party poppers going off, but give it a few months and they’ll realise they’ve lost one of the 2 main topics they cover on the show. If we ever get a Labour government here again I’m not sure what they’d do for content. The same goes for whoever writes the two weekly gags at the start of Graham Norton as well.

I do imagine the topical shows will keep the Trump bandwagon continuing in a ‘what he did next’ sort of way, and make a big deal out of every time he pops back up with a comment or an appearance.

It'll be the same as all the topical comedy shows did between 1997 and 2010 - there's always something to make jokes about no matter who's in government. All governments mess up, make blunders, say stupid things.

And of course it's not the case that when Labour are in opposition they get a free ride from comedians, there was plenty of jokes at Corbyn, Milliband and Kinnock. And vice versa of course.

Because of the pandemic the current Labour opposition hasn't really made an impact, or had a chance to do a great deal so far so they've not really appeared much in comedy. Plus the amount of material coming from two incompetent, populist administrations on each side of the Atlantic would overshadow anything they did do

Whereas that is true we did have George W Bush during that era who was the source of many gags. The only gag that seems to exist about Biden at the moment is that he is old.

And although shows like HIGNFY won't find it hard to poke fun at whoever is in charge there are certain shows and certain comedians I couldn't see changing their act and doing the same in the opposite direction. Political comedy seems too partisan these days driven by social media

It’s truly incredible to see how CNN, the channel Trump tried to destroy has in fact become the biggest news channel in the country and in some respects the world.

Remarkable figures.

Let's hope they can retain some of those who have tuned into CNN over the past year. Let's see how they do without mentioning Trump every 2 seconds.

More remarkable given how repetitive they are in what they do.

I believe CNN was also one of the networks that had been accessible to Trump when he's still a candidate, only to portray them as "enemy of the people" when he got cornered.

Yes, when he was first standing for president in 2015 CNN were obsessed with him as he was good for ratings, they covered all his rallies and events.

The head of CNN, Jeff Zucker, was the man who commissioned The Apprentice at NBC. Therefore he has a lot of responsibility for putting him in the White House - it was The Apprentice that took his persona from laughing stock failed businessman to successful billionaire business genius.
However it all went a bit sour and they had a falling out

If NBC had never sacked him the last 4 years might have been very different.

Jon Culshaw was never quite the same after Dubya left the stage (not that he was ever a comedy great in the first place to be honest)

CNN has a lot to answer for, as do all the news channels in America over what occurred in the past four year. Their constant reporting and analysis of Trump and everything he said and did led to what happened on 6th January.

What else could they do? Trump was a complete car crash from start to finish. It was Trump's lies in an attempt to destabilise trust in mainstream news which has led to the factionalism we have today where his followers will only consume pro-Trump media outlets.
