OK, so the festive season is still a month away, but we still don't know what's going to happen on BBC, ITV or Sky News this Christmas. So here is a thread looking back at set decorations, special programmes and presenters through the years of the Christmas News. Let lots of images and video fill up the thread! What is Xmas news like, what was it like and what will it be like?

I remember last year once Breakfast had finished using their studio for the Christmas Period that BBC News 24 stole their tree

what would be great, but this would never happen, is the desks all have decotations, the titles and graphics would all become christmasy, like RTE did once.

Arrow OOOH HOW SPECTACULAR!

Moving swiftly on, they could also bring in things like dancing santas and have them on the news desk. Really that would be just the funniest, "and now from me, and *inster name of other presenter* and of course santa, goodbye!"

I wonder if ITV may add some falling snow to their virtual backdrop!

Look East went mad in the mid-90s.

They added falling snow to their opening titles, had a snowcapped mountains and christmas tree backdrop for the second half of the programme, a Christmas remix of the title music (with hints of carols and sleigh bells) as well as ending with a different "Christmas lights from your town" sequence every night.

The music was hilarious - it was so OTT!

I wonder when BBC Breakfast will be gettting their tree this year. I remember people were complaining it took so long last year.

oh yes, one of my all time favourite clips - its an epic, something all regional news shows should aspire to at christmas.

oh this has been an agonising decision - but, i had to come to a decision as to whether to post this in a new thread or not, and, obviously i have decided not to.

anyway, not wishing to take advantage of square eyes being temporarily tied up at a trainee hairdressing conference in southport, last year he launched the tv forum regional news christmas tree champion 2003

so naturally, we must once again throw open the doors to entries from the 4 corners of the kingdom, giving budding regional production teams the chance to win the coveted title

"TV Forum Regional News Christmas Tree Champion 2004"

things usually get going a week or 2 into december so we need to make sure we have all of the bases covered. it goes without saying andrew will monitor yorks&lincs, james hatts will, no doubt, do london. ill try and keep an eye on the midlands, tvdragon - wales etc. but when we come to obscure regions like border and channel we may come a little unstuck.

but anyway. your region needs you.

while i'm thinking about it - lets take a look back at past years ...

in 2001 bbc mids bought a huge tree and even did a report about themselves buying a decorating a tree - local news at its best Laughing

in the same year - a rather tasteful tree on central

the tree shrank in 2002 - but they did have a specially composed christmas song played live in the studio

and a lovely sting over on central

2003 - they invested in new tinsel

oh and for the days when we used to get regional christmas idents Crying or Very sad

That's Sue Beardsmore - she's a total leg-end in the Midlands! Laughing

Here's one I remember. In the early 80s when BBC News was standardised for the first time with this look:

Image From TV Ark

A Promo/Trail was run with all BBC presenters of the time wishing a 'Merry Christmas'. The Newsteam of the period did the same, from the news set:

However, instead of the Big Circular Logo - there was the shape of a Christmas Tree!

I've seen a picture online, but I can't find it...
