The coverage from ITV today was good, but not as outstanding as the Sky coverage. Rachel Ammatt was brilliant. I also work for an ITV owned company so I should be biased!
There was absolutely so need for Channel 4 and Five to interrupt their schedules as two other terrestial channels were already covering this (and both with the majority of the same footage).
The reasons that 24hr news channels were created was to give continuous hour news. Obviously not everybody can receive them, but maybe not everyone wants to watch the news outside the bulletins...?

:-(
ITV News had the best coverage, as Julian Manion was the FIRST reporter into the school, and was in between the firing line. This man deserves an award for the way he performed today. Thank god him and his crew got out safely.

Excellent coverage by ITV today, yes, it's a shame they had to pull it off at 2pm, just for Quincy...
I mean, really!
I tuned in at around quarter past 11 and saw what was happening - was a caption up after the ITV1 ident saying "ITV News Report" or something?
I think ITV News is really getting a lot better this year, especially after the so-called "fluffy news stories" and critisism they got last year - also I think it's good that they stayed on the air all that time, updating viewers, etc...

It started at 10.50. I only saw the start of the simulcast on the News Channel, where Alastair paused and then welcomed viewers on ITV1, so I don't know if Trisha was interrupted.
No - the mid-morning and lunchtime bulletins were both cancelled.
The ITV News Flash came on ITV1 at 10.40am for about 30 seconds and then returned to part 5 of Trisha, though Nick did say there would be an update at 10.55 and the Lunchtime News at 12.30pm, but as it has been said, just after 10.50am ITV NC was on ITV1, though I only saw it until 11.50 (as I had to go to work) I kept with their coverage and I thought it was excellent, though Alistair was going on a bit, it was still very informative, and the screen wasn't full of clutter unlike the BBC.
Though I was flicking in between channels this morning, I happened to watch a bit of it on EuroNews (via Channel M) and all I can say is not to turn to them for Breaking News, it was showing the feed that all of the other channels were showing and with some woman doing the V/O.
Though I know people don't expect much of Channel 4 and Five, on neither channel was there an Update or a flash which I really would have expected, though I don't think it would be good for Five to break in half way through Milkshake.

When did this special programme start, was it at 10.55am just when the usual News Summary would air?

Also, was there any regional news at any point on ITV1 before 3.05pm?

Wrong. Sky's Rachel Ammatt was there long before Julian.
ITV has been good today, but Sky have had the edge.
Their storytelling and packaging has been better, clearer and sharper.
ITV has been repetitive and slightly incoherent. They did well with their exclusive re. the bodies in the gym, but they've traded on that a bit too much I think.

I've just spoken to a friend of mine at ITN and he confirmed that Rachel Ammatt from Sky News was the first British journalist into the school.
However it's not always about who is 'first; it's about the quality of the reporting and Rachel Ammatt's reporting was superb...the best today. The story that she recorded from the front line was completely overwhelming and really made you think of the people involved and the chaos that followed.

Yes - I tuned in just after seven and I think they were replaying that Owen-Manyon exchange for the umpteenth time.

There's a sinple explanation for that - Nigel Dacre left and David Mannion came back.

I agree - the News at Ten Thirty has certainly improved since its launch in February. It is now usually a few minutes longer. And ITV News - when there is a major story such as the current and Boscastle etc. - their coverage is always a lot better than other broadcasters.
