i was saddened to hear about the sacking of all those familiar faces from anglia news - it will never be the same again.
some of you might appreciate this.

it's true that anglia news has gone down the tubes in recent years, but it was still reassuring to see all those familiar faces which have graced our screens for all these years. so sad it always seems to come this time of year too.
the eagle eyed amongst you might note that the anglia east edition features a lady now known as fenella fudge - the radio 2 staple.

Rather ironic watching the reports about the different news centres about how each county is going to get more coverage. Oh well, not for long. Some great insights into the kit they were using back then on the Anglia East video - I want Mark too!

It was spelt MARC. Panasonic's cart system based around the MII tape format, Panny's ill fated attempt to compete with Sony's Betacam format.
Only two UK stations ever adopted the format, Anglia and Thames.

I KNEW it was going to be spelt diferently to however I posted it. I toyed with MAARK, MAAK, MAHK and all other interesting spellings and I'd have to go for the wrong one. Anyway, didn't realise it was a Panasoic creation.
But then what better expert on "MARC" could we have than "Markymark".
I'll get me coat.

Yep - and it was a real pain when BBC East and Anglia pooled coverage - as neither could easily play each others tapes... (Well the BBC had more trouble as Anglia had the odd Beta SP machine, but the Beeb always had to rent an MII player. ISTR that Cambridge Uni were also MII which was quite handy...)
Very sad news about Anglia - whilst Jonathan Wills and Becky Jago are perfectly good presenters - it is very sad that so many familiar and experienced faces are going.
East Anglia has always been one of those regions with long-serving presenters on both channels (it was described to me as a "fur lined rut") who really knew their regions - and Anglia always seemed to value skill, character and loyalty over "eyes and teeth". Shame.

The exodus from Border appears to be starting with the news that Gilly Fraser, one of its longest-serving reporters, is to leave the station next week after 22 years to pursue a career outside of television:

Jonathan Wills - why him over Tim Curtis? Becky Jago too? National Rejects!! So sad to see Caroline leave after 25 plus years with Anglia - no loyalty whatsoever!

I would have thought they would have paired up Tim Curtis and Claire Weller.
Jonathan Wills has only been with Anglia for a year?
Caroline Oldrey is an experienced presenter doing continuity for TSW and Anglia, before presenting the Anglia News west from the start of the service. A sad loss....
Becky Jago? Too Newsround, travel girl from Vibe FM.
Tim Curtis needs snapping up by BBC East – a great guy and a fellow TV presentation fan like ourselves.

Yep - though he is experienced and a perfectly acceptable presenter. Not saying he is better or worse than the others - just that he isn't a total no-hoper.

Yep - I detect a degree of age-ism creeping in ...

Though she started at Anglia as a young reporter didn't she - prior to Newsround and Vibe. She's a local girl ISTR.

Yep - and eventually BBC East will need a replacement for Stuart - though I hope he doesn't go anywhere that soon.

Tyne Tees cuts announced. Both Jonathan Morrell and Philippa Tomson are to leave.
Interestingly they are both the 'North' anchors. Tyne Tees will now use both the 'South' anchors Ian Payne and Pam Royle for the whole region. Not a mix of one North and one South. Although I'd image both the North anchors would be on a bigger wage than their southern counterparts.
Also leaving is much loved weather presenter Bob Johnson. He retires this month and leaves Jon Mitchell as the only trained meteorologist in the ITV regions, along with Martyn Davies on the nationals.
Plus I believe they've cut back their sports department to just one reporter across the whole north east.
