Central are getting a particularly poor deal here, only getting the 6 mins instead of 15 mins in the sub-opt, what with them having seperate bulletins for about 20 years compared with Yorkshire (who are getting the same deal) where it is more recent

Well as I say, TTTV South are getting precisely nowt.

It does seem ridiculous, however, that an area the size of the East Midlands should be losing its local programme at all. This is the service that lost Lew Grade control of ATV, and now Michael is reverting the situation back.

Anyone have any views of Thames Valley, would it have made sense to break it up and lump the former Central South bit in with Central West, or do they have more affinity with Meridian South?

I would like to think that Central South moves back to Central and Wesley moves back to Central as thats his real home land!

Thames Valley has enough problem covering the area they have at the moment. Viewers in Oxfordshire have little to no interest in Hampshire. But hey, this is progress, so I suppose we better just get on with it.

Just a mention, that I'm sure there will be more behind the scenes reports on the ITV regional news tonight.

The problem remains, as it has done for 40 years, with the coverage area of the Oxford transmitter. It's in a regional 'no man's land'. Parts of it are in the south, other parts the west, and the northern sector the Midlands. The ITA/IBA kept it in the Midlands region during their regime, with the 'straw clutching' reason that the Cowley car plant and associated motor industries in the Oxford area had affinity with Brum and the Midlands. The BBC had it as an annexe of London and SE until 2000 because it's commuterland. Take your pick !

Strewth, I thought that was only reserved for Big Brother evictions.

Now we probably know why ITN's chief executive Mark Wood resigned yesterday.

I'm amused by this 'sound bite' from him:-

Quote:-

"ITN now has a dynamism, creativity and momentum which will ensure it achieves sustained growth and profitability in the future," said Wood."

End Quote

Yea right !

Will ITN be directly affected by this round of cuts?
(They had to make their own cost savings and efficiency improvements not that long ago).

In particular I thought that ITV's regional news operation was distinct from the national and regional news provided by ITN so, unless it was a sloppily worded announcement, the cuts would appear to be within the fully in-house operation.

It's regional news only.
