There really is a lot of confusion in these reports.

Will the Border/TTTV opt-outs be 6 minutes or 15? Will Bilsdale retain its opt-out or not? If not, as seems to be the case, why has my sub-region, in place for 25 years and one of the oldest opt-outs in the UK been singled out for the chop?

far from Regional news being 'over' as showbizguru and, well showbizguru has been saying; many value regional news and it FAR outweighs newspapers and internet as the primary source of information.

The game is over for regional news on ITV I'm afraid.
Content drives ratings which drives advertising and there are simply not enough people interested in watching some of the risible output of some regional news programmes.
No one likes to see an old dog suffering and sometimes a bullet behind the ear is the kindest thing.

Why do you never listen to what anyone else has to say?

You're like a broken record.

From what I gather the 3 opts in the Border-Tyne Tees region will be Cumbria, South of Scotland and Tyne Tees (TTTV North/South opts scrapped). I had thought each opt would broadcast 15 minutes of local news but I have also seen a number of reports which suggest they will only broadcast 6 minutes of regional news. No-one seems to have a definitive answer.

Guess we'll just have to wait and see but one things for sure: the future ain't looking bright.

Definitely not.

So is Bilsdale the only sub-region not to be carried over under this plan then?

The reason will be technical rather than political most likely if true, and I have every intention of complaining to Ofcom on this specific point, hopefully if others do the same it'll put the cat among the pigeons if nothing else.

Think an email to Tyne Tees may be in order -- I wonder if they're as receptive to queries as they used to be?

It's not my problem that you can't face facts.
If the regulators themselves are quite happy to see a reduction in local news coverage then it's clear they accept there's a waning audience.
I know you don't like intrusions into your cosy little world here but television executives work in the real world and not on internet forums harking back to a golden age that was never very golden in the first place.
You'll be calling for the return of the Potter's Wheel next.

Clearly you have not (or have chosen not to) seen the reaction by the general public to this news. I haven't heard one member of the public supporting or accepting the decision here in the North East or the Border region; all are angry by the loss of their source of local news. Or do they also not live in the 'real world' ?

Whilst there has been some outcry from viewers the actual percentage is pretty low compared to total local audience/population.

The deal is done - it will happen -end of.

The days of sitting for 30 mins to watch local news each night are gone and this is not simply down to ITV reducing services but to the way people absorb news - with multi-channel TV and the general busy way we live people's habits have changed.

For me (and many others I presume) the national and local news headlines as BBC1 provide weekdays at 8pm tells me everything I need to know - stories of white tiger cubs born at the local zoo or a couple married for 70 years is of no interest to the majority.

Indeed it is, for ITV plc, but:

Presumably the weather services will be realigned with the news service, but I wonder if they'll axe any weather forecasts considering there are still forecasts in the mid-afternoon, which used to follow the afternoon bulletin, and also late at night too.

It's debatable people care more about the local weather forecast than the news anyway, and considering the mid-morning summary doesn't have a national weather update anyway I guess having the national news and regional weather is a possibility.

I still think though it all comes back to whether the regional licences should be put up for renewal again.

Multi-tasking only goes so far, around 6:30pm Mon-Fri I'll probably want a break so I'll be eating my dinner and sat in front of the TV like most people. Very Happy

Do you chew the cud 24/7 ' TV Times '? Wink

again, the FACTS just do not support you:

http://www.ofcom.org.uk/consult/condocs/psb2_phase2/annex16.pdf

p32: At least 65%(average) of TV viewers watch regional ITV News everyday or several times a week. In many regions it's over 75%

cant post the pretty graph as its in the annex
