so how does STV get away with it ? have two newsroom severing 4million viewers?
I'm sure ultimately you will just have one programme with a 5 minute opt-out for Central, North and Border's Scottish area (if they end up with that under ITV's proposals).
that wont happen for at least another 5 years at least after all the money there spent!

You keep saying that, but the Isle of Man must be able to receive Granada's signal. If it is covered by BBC North West (which it definitely is) then it will be able to receive ITV Granada because both are transmitted from Winter Hill in Lancashire.

Its official ITV station is Border, which is what the relays on the island carry; they are fed from Caldbeck but are set up to broadcast North West Tonight. Parts of it can receive Granada, though.

The reason why I watch North East Tonight over Look North in the North East is the fact I do not live in Cumbria and do not wish to know about stories miles away from me that really does not concern myself or my neighbours. I'm sure it works the other way for Cumbria aswell. I sincerely hope that my local ITV news don't start telling me about news stories far, far west.

The relays on the island re-broadcast the BBC channels from Winter Hill, but ITV and Channel 4 from Caldbeck.
See the note below the second picture, here.
Hence all the confusion.
Whilst I'm here, after about forty years of campaigning, I must record my total satisfaction with the West and Westcountry merger, at last.

Afraid the situation with Douglas is even less clear than that - normally it relays a BBC North East and Cumbria transmitter - Caldbeck I think. Except when BBC North West opt out and it switches to that - there's something in the VBI lines from Winter Hill to control its switching.
Presumably the signal is better from Caldbeck but they tolerate the Winter Hill signal in the interests of editoral regions
