STV north/Central has one MD yet has two separate news programmes.

But for how much longer?...

There numbers are going up, and the new local opt outs are even better so I saying for along time yet.

Fair enough. Maybe I shouldn't judge STV/SMG by ITVplc's standards?! Wink

The local opt out I get is really good, ( if a bit short ) far more informative than reading a local newspaper ( more concise ). Although this is positive, I can't help think that in STV North / Central they are benefiting from the BBC Scotland news service, which a lot of forum users ( including myself ) think is of very poor quality for a " national " regional news programme.

...run by the BBC, a service with so much more money than it's commercial rival?

Yup, I guess it proves that money does not equal quality when it comes to news

Interestingly, apart from a caption, it's all about Cumbria (predominantly), and Dumfries and Galloway, with the Scottish Borders and Isle of Man almost totally ignored. A bit like Lookaround, so no change there then.

I don't normally watch Lookaround, what with living in Yorkshire, but I saw it for the last three days and their lead story on Tuesday was about the Manx TT races.

Because they are more populated areas. Admittedly not a lot happens in Dumfries, which is where I am, but it's a lot more than in the Borders or IoM.

I really do believe axing Lookaround is a bit mistake. It does have some of the highest viewing figures for a regional news programme, and it is one of the best loved. But yet again with ITV it all comes down to money, not providing a service. I don't want shunted off to Gateshead or Glasgow for my news. I think the Carlisle operation serves its purpose.

The Isle of Man hasn't been completely ignored by the campaign:
