(Anglia had two sites in the town for a while), before moving back again when the other site was sold off AIUI.
Ah right: So did one site do news, and the other site do other TV shows then ( Trisha, Loose Women etc )?
No - both sites had large and small studios - and the news moved between the two in its history. There may have been "quiet times" when one site only had news programmes in production - but the facilities both had were more than required just for local news.
ISTR that Vanessa/Trisha came from both sites during the lifetime of Anglia doing ITVs morning studio debate show, before Trisha defected and Jeremy Kyle took over with a non-Norwich based show.

I think it was always obvious when ITV seperated the Wales & West regions that they had created a mini-region that wasm't sustainable.
However, merging West & Westcountry really does create a massive region in geographic terms. Surely a merger with Meridian would make more sense. The people of Bristol have far more in common with that area than they do with the rural areas of Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and Somerset.

...But then I suppose that would create a broadcast area stretching from Bristol to Southend, and that can't be good for local broadcasting.

Which is no better or worse than one stretching from Bristol to Land's End covering the whole of the South West peninsula.

...It isn't probably. But I think the people of Bristol have far more in common with those in the westcountry than those in Essex
It happens quite alot in all regions though. I have nothing in common with those in Aberdeen, but I am in the same news region as them on the BBC. It's probably manageable if you get the balance right, but can be awful if you don't (BBC NE&C herherm

Not wishing to detract from my own argument, but remember it's actually, at least, Gloucester to Land's End; and probably quite a way north of Gloucester if you include the Ridge Hill viewers.
I'd be interested, Stuart, in what you thoughts are about the people you know in Plymouth. Do they feel more affinity with Bristol and Gloucester or Southampton and Brighton?
Certainly Wiltshire folk, with the possible excepion of a few down the bottom, south of Salisbury, feel far more affinity with Plymouth and the peninsula than Southampton and the south coast.

Oh come on, Swindon; affinity to Plymouth ?
And yes, those south of Salisbury probably do feel more affinity to Southampton, especially as some of them have SO postcodes !

And remember Salisbury's relay is from Rowridge.

Oh come on, Swindon; affinity to Southampton?
I was asking about comparative levels of affinity, though.
2% for one is more than 1% for the other; even though both figures are incredibly tiny.
I've never said there's a HUGE affininty to anywhere, I was just talking about which affinity is larger than which other.
Please read the script before you go off on one!

I think ITV is better off dissolving HTV West by splitting it into three separate areas to merge in with the other ITV regions:
Northern part (Gloucestershire) back to Central
South eastern part (Wiltshire, Dorset and SE Somerset) to Meridian
South western part (Avon and SW Somerset) to Westcountry
I live in Poole on the South Coast that I currently recieve a pretty good reception of HTV West/BBC Bristol that the analogue signal is far better from Mendip as the one from Rowridge is pretty crap. I can get a better reception of Meridian only by digital cable TV.
Honestly I don't mind watching Bristol focused news from here instead of Southampton but the only drawback is my area is never on the map on the HTV weather forecasts!
