Possible Andrea didn't want to return full time so a job share might suit them better. Think it's been quite some time since any incarnation of the main HTV Wales bulletin has been anchored by just one person.

Brekkie I believe the last time the main HTV Wales bulletin was single anchored was ironically the last time it was called Wales At Six back in 1994 so 20 years ago. It went to two presenters when the programme relaunched in Feb 1994 as Wales Tonight and the time changed to 6.25pm. Of course it returned to 6pm in 1999 but the name Wales at Six didnt return.

Yes its possible that Andrea wanted to return part time and Jon is often absent so rather than arrange cover it might have been the better option. Jon is the producer of many local programmes and I assume the plan is for Andrea to present the Saturday national bulletins some weekends, as well as Jon, so it might suit them both well.

I still don't think that the name 'Wales At Six' should be used, especially as it's been used before (working well for Good Morning Britain isn't it? Methinks not). It should just be ITV News Wales in my opinion (sorry peeps as much as I love the old regions, HTV is dead and I feel the new Studios confirm that. It's not really a name that can be used with the ITV name either such as Granada, Central, Meridian etc. It's the 'Wales' part of the old HTV Wales franchise that is important in this equation).

This is clearly an opportunity though for ITV Cymru Wales to think about making the programme for Wales, not to suit the latest whims of network staff and their branding consultants in London. Although ITV News Wales could work perfectly well there is no reason why the Wales at Six brand can't work alongside it.

If my company had paid to sponsor the regional weather / pollen forecast I'd be pretty annoyed at ITV's decision not to show the regional news tonight

I think you're right though suspect ITV won't care if the company has paid up front for a 'block booking' sponsorship deal. I also suspect it's in the sponsorship contract under 'exceptional circumstances'. Would be interesting to know if ITV would need to refund the company for missed sponsorship opportunities though.

I expect they'll be refunded. When I was at Calander I was told that Jet2 (at the time) had someone who would time each sting as it went out live to make sure it was exactly ten seconds, anything less and they would demand their money back.

There is no reason why the weather couldnt have been shown after the national weather like it does at lunchtime and late night on weekends when there is no news bullletin.

Carl Edwards is to present the first GMB Wales bulletin from Cardiff Bay in around 10 mins according to twitter

No lighting used between the screens, just the black spaces. Not sure if it will stay like that, but whoever thought that would be fine like that, need sacked Wink
Obviously, i'm kidding. But it doesn't look right at all imo.
Studio can be seen at 2:04 in the video, which clearly shows how it would be on air.

The black spaces makes the screen look obviously fake. It's fine on the close up shots but wide shots show it off. They could've put some white or teal panels in place to just make it look like it's part of the set.

Midlands Today do a better job of masking up the huge gaps between the smaller screens, ITV Wales should have done something similar to this:

Simply awful. Either a bizarre decision or a huge oversight. You wonder how people can progress such an aesthetic project without thinking critically about how it will actually appear.
