For the background, is it that the set is the same as Granada's, but windows in the studio are not full height? Or are they screens displaying the background?

The set is the same height, although the desk is some sort of compromise between the London and National desks. AFAIK the 'windows' are similar to this setup: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNGx2TRdsKA which is screens with chrome poles covering the joins.

They are screens which appeared initially to be full height, but when shown in the previews have been kind of plasma height with black panels above and below, so whether that is the screen or a (bizarre) choice I don't. If they could get full height panels surely blue/teal above the image would be better.

To me, that looked like the backing wasn't outputted to the screens properly. Would seem silly to have full size frames but only small 'windows' inside them.

The image you posted at the start of this thread does clearly show that they are small screens with a large black border.

It would be my hope that there is some coloured lighting below and above the screens behind the glass, otherwise it's going to look very odd.

So it does, I glanced when I uploaded it and thought it was just the crap quality of the video.

Shame they couldn't continue to use rear projection like they did in the old studio, as it would at least give for a larger backdrop, if a lower quality one.

In 10 or 15 years, hopefully that virtual window/virtual reality software can be present in all news studios. HA, one can dream...

Quite clear now you've reposted it - didn't they realise it looks awful. Even continuing with the grey panelling top and bottom would look better.

Well white paneling lit blue would probably look nice, I'd be surprised if they went ahead with it as it is, as they just look like a massive TVs with letterbox mode on. Not the window effect they should be going for.

So on Monday it'll be London, Granada and Wales with the new sets then. How many of the other regions are still in the buildings they were in back in the 90s - is it likely any more will be relocating in the near future as that seems the only way to get a new set.
