One feature about the centre is the central apparatus room was contained within a giant Faraday Cage,
because when the centre opened in 1984, high power VHF/405 lines transmissions from Wenvoe, (just a mile away) induced enormous levels of interference at the site.
It was a measure only required for less than a year, because 405 line transmissions ceased on Jan 2nd 1985.
I don't know whether it was all an over reaction, I recall reading a technical paper on the matter at the time.
Modern kit today is unlikely to be affected, EMC compliance is very good, just consider the muck that is thrown at kit by nearby mobile phones
It's not exactly the most attractive looking TV studio centre is it?

Understand ITV Wales to become single presenter when they get new studio. Wonder why they're going the way of ITV London but when Granada got theirs they stayed with the double presenter format?

Perhaps a local decision for each region as to how they wish to spend the budget.

I don't think there is a rule that states regions using the new style of set must go down to one presenter.

I feel all the Regions on ITV (and probably the BBC too) should be presented by a single person only (including the Sport and Weather updates). This could allow a different presenter for both/all sides with sub-regions (for example Bob Warman on Central West, someone else on Central East). The savings (admittedly not huge) could then be ploughed back into the Regional News programming budget.
For the English Regions I still think Ofcom/ITV should look at merging Pan-Regional Political programming into the Regional News programming too (though for this segment I personally would keep the Political editors as I believe it's generally presented from Westminster?). Two 7 minute segments per week would be far more up to date than the current situation. It would allow more access to ITV's Political programming too whilst not disrupting the flow of the News programme too much.
Therefore I agree with ITV Wales following ITV London's lead, it's the content (and it's affordability) that matters in my opinion...

Talking about the English regions in the ITV Wales thread is surely the definition of off-topic!
As for hosts - a one size fits all approach doesn't work - as much as the networks might not want it to be the case the regions are different and the programmes are different, plus the hosts are different too. Some work fine all on their own, others work better with a co-host. Not much saving either if they just plough the money back in - ITV may feel that the money spent on a second host is a better investment than on additional reporters or behind the scenes staff.
Scrapping the sports presenter would save nothing as usually they're probably the regions main (and possibly only) sports reporter anyway, and the team element having the hosts, sports host and weather presenter can be quite important.
