STV on the other hand will probably just bang on about the Scottish News Hour, miss any deadline on objecting to the ITV network news hour and end up having to go with it.

I doubt it since STV has done alot of work and has planing, so I bet there grab the chance to opt out

It often was a major change in tone when the regions used to hand back at 6:55 on BBC1 for the headlines, you would end with friendly banter and then straight into the most serious news of the day.

Reporting Scotland stopped doing that years ago.

As did every English Region (plus CI), Wales and NI.

Did NI ever do it? From what I remember the UK/world headlines at 6:55pm, when they did exist, were read in NI by the BBC Newsline presenters..

AIUI for the bulk of the time that the 1855 update existed, the nations didn't opt back for it, only English regions did. Whether the nations went back initially - or never did - I'm not sure.

I wonder if ITV are trying to do a News + Regional News + One Show equivalent within an hour ?

There have been ongoing rumblings about trying to do something similar to The One Show for a while. Although Emmerdale comfortably beats The One Show, The One Show does a MUCH better job of holding the regional audience than the shows it replaced at 7pm on BBC One, and I'm sure ITV would like to increase their early evening audience still further, particularly before 7pm.

(BBC One is usually ahead of ITV1 from 0600 to 1900 for all but the odd half hour)

Sounds plausable, though I wish the two main channels wouldn't copy each other's shows all the time...Maybe at 18:30pm they should show a more varied schedule (though still News/Current Affairs based), something like this...

MONDAY - TONIGHT (moved from Thursdays)
TUESDAY - Weekly regional political programme
WEDNESDAY - One Show equivalent
THURSDAY - National political programme
FRIDAY - One Show equivalent

To be strictly true, ITV are generally ahead of BBC1 from 2/2.30ish until 5.15pm. Are they not also ahead sometimes at 9:25am?

Calendar's presenters were both unusually absent on Tue & Wed as well, so maybe they were involved in the regional part for the pilot.

Sameena Ali-Khan from Central tweeted she was also part of the pilot.

I assume they're doing the pilots at 7?
