ITV Regional Weather - why so many forecasts?

Just wondering why ITV have far more regional weather forecasts than national forecasts.

As well as forecasts in the Lunchtime, 6pm and 10.30pm editions (along with national forecasts), there are also forecasts after the 10.55pm bulletin and the 3pm bulletin and weekend local bulletins.

That's not really surprising - but I've never understood why they have a forecast after the late Weekend News considering there is no regional news update.

Another question that crops up with this - will the 3pm forecast be axed when the 3pm bulletin is axed?

My explanation for the late Regional Weather is based on assumption that most ITV stations used to have a Weather summary before they closed down, even though ITV has been 24 hours for some time now, that Weather bulletin got moved earlier to a more suitable slot, either after the last main News bulletin or after a show where ITV would probably close down, or probably before Night Time (After The South Bank Show or something like that)

Up until last year the late Weather used to be on about an hour after the main News bulletins.

I just guess overall that they are there to follow the Regional News, even if it used to be included within the News, before they became seperate bulletins, probably due to Sponsorship, the main trigger being the Legal & General sponsorship that started in 1991.

Have a look at the ITV Lunchtime News thread ... the regional component of the Lunchtime News is being extended to 13 minutes when the lunchtime newshour is introduced.

The bulletin is to be axed according to the annual regional programme statements on the ITV regional websites

On HTV Wales we only have a weather bulletin with in vision presenter during the lunchtime, 3pm, 6pm and late bulletins. During GMTV bulletins and at 10.55am we have the newsreader reading the weather forcast over a picture of the maps. I assume the reason they have a late night weather forcast at the weekend is because its pre recorded and the news would have to be done live so they dont bother with that at the weekends, not at that time of night.
