ITV region news

Do ITV plan to change the names of the local news, (like htv news - ITV west news)?

I think they did, about a year ago.

I'm suprised all the regions haven't followed the ITV Wales News scheme of things when they got corporatised. So you'd have ITV Meridian News, ITV London News or ITV Tyne Tees News...

It was only because they had to get rid of the HTV name that it was changed to ITV Wales/West News. There's no reason to change the others..... although if they did they'd no doubt get rid of the non-geographical 'Meridian' and 'Granada'

They'd be very unlikely to have a news programme called ITV London News when the opposition is called BBC London News!

I know about the HTV West News becoming ITV West News (because of HTV West becoming ITV West), but I'm suprised ITV didn't take this as an idea to change all of the news services to either ITV ?????? News or even totally removed the non-region specific news services as you said.

If the regional news was remamed to follow the ITV *insert area* News then that could lead to difficulties, especially in Meridian...

Meridian News South = ITV South News
Meridian News East = ITV South East News
Meridian News West = ITV South Central News

Others would be more simple

North East News = ITV North East News
Westcountry News = ITV Westcountry News
Granada News = ITV North West News

They would more likely go down the route of calling it;

ITV Meridian News
ITV Granada News
ITV Central News

etc

I expect so, but it would be just like ITV to remove any sense of regionality...

granada and Meridian don't mean anything though do they? So why did HTV go?

Well why don't you just sit there and say it to yourself, and see what you come up with.

Border would be the most difficult to name. The coverage is north England, south Scotland, and not forgetting IoM. The only option would be ITV Border News, which they already have without the ' ITV ... ' bit in the title. But the Lookaround name is famous in the region, sort of like the ' News at Ten ' brand, except on a smaller scale.

Anyway, ITV plc has killed off almost all sense of regional identity, I would hope they would be able to trust each ITV region with their own branding .... ooops, having said that, it would be so brilliant if all these choices could be made by us here in London.
