Agreed.

But it has always been known where that the initials "ITV" originated from "Independent Television".

I think it's generally accepted that Norman Collins, who was heavily involved in setting up ITV, first coined the phrase 'Independent Television' as he felt 'commercial television' sounded too vulgar. Quite what ITV is or was independent of has always been a mystery to me.
