This is just a thought, but ITN have had control over Channel 5/five news over the last 7 years, but I wonder why they haven't used ITV news faces on. They used to in the early days of Channel 4 News when they used to have people like John Suchet on C4 News in the 1980's, but again, I wonder why this hasn't be the case for the TV station five. Does anyone know why?

Good question (and one that really warrants it's own thread, not p43 of the ITV News thread, so hence the new topic)...

As said, in the early days ITV and C4 were related more, cross promoting each channel and ITV responsible for selling C4 airtime. In those days there was also just 4 channels, so identity wasn't as important as it is now.

I guess another reason is that newsreaders such as Kirsty Young are employed by the channel, not ITN, so won't be on other channels. Hence, it is almost certain (but not confirmed!) that Kirsty Young will stay with Five News when Sky take over production from ITN.

Hopefully some members can add more details to this thread. I'm not sure if the likes of Trevor McDonald and Jon Snow are employed by ITV / C4 or ITN.

It has been confirmed many times that Kirsty is remaining as the main anchor of Five News.

Trevor's contract is with ITV. AFAIK Jon Snow is with ITN.

On a related note, it is noticeable that a lot of people at ITN who predominantly work with ITV News can be heard voicing packages on Five News. Philip Reay-Smith and Damon Green are two examples from the last week.

It is also not uncommon to see identical packages on Five News and ITV News (especially at weekends) with different signoffs.

Still, it would have been different to see ITV's Newsreaders on five only for one off appearances, though, I reckon.

Incidentally most of the Sky News team to take over the five contract are now in place, and they are already doing dry runs...

Are there any Sky employees in this forum, and if so can we have a few clues about what it all looks like?!?!?!?!

Maybe we better have a new thread for five news opened soon?
