It could easily be the cause of a strike - if only all the non-News Channel ITN staff decided to stand behind their colleagues who would lose their jobs on the channel's closure. This would almost certainly have happened in the past, but in these days of short-term contracts, declining union membership, and castrated unions, I think it is unlikely to occur.

i doubt there'd be a full scale strike. a loss of morale probably, but then with the budget cuts at ITV News over the last few years, that's probably something they're used to.

IRN are very lazy these days, but that comes with all the cutbacks they made. But I remember a fair few years ago it wasn't unusual to have "Cut 99" by about 10pm - now you struggle to reach 50.

Lazy or just forced to be due to a lack of money?

Last Saturday IRN failed to send anyone to the football friendlies in Geneva (Eng Vs Arg) or Hampden Park (Sco Vs USA).
Given the exciting ending of the England game, that is one massive own goal IRN scored with no network reports.

I wonder if John Anderson was sitting at home pointing at the television and sobbing "I could have been there"

Yes - axing the good sports people in the big clear-out of a bit ago and the memo from Tony to the guy at Westminster talking of cuts that got accidently sent to the network. Ah happy days!
