Should Mark Austin or Alastair Stewart leave though I think they would be at a bit of a loss. No natural male successor I could think of, they'd have to recruit externally.

Again, the regions? I don't know about the English regions, but from STV, John Mackay would be brilliant.

Geriant Vincent? Array of presenting experience and used to Mark's deputy on the evening news, there was even a breif period in which he seemed to present more than any male presenter across the then lunchtime, evening and weekend bulletins.
He's also followed a similar path as Mark did in being a foreign correspondent and has covered sport, politics and UK stories so is by far credible/well rounded enough to be a future anchor.
I think they'd poach from elsewhere to be honest with you. Reckon they'd aim for someone like big JT from Sky.
Can't really see that myself, it would be be odd for a man of his years to just be suddenly presented to a free to air audience that are largely unaware of his work. If they were going down the Sky route a return for Dermot Murnaghan would be the logical option.
Nina would be my first choice to take over from either Mary or Julie. I've always liked Nina's style, and feel she brings some creditability to the role, something I don't really feel with Charlene - even though I like her too.
I always thought that Matt Barbet was brought to ITV not just to present the first hour of Daybreak, but to move up to ITV News and eventually take over from Alastair or Mark when that time came.
I would suspect if Mary or Julie left probably Nina or Charlene would fill the role. If it was Mark or Alastair I'd suspect James Mates or Chris Ship would replace them.
Faye Barker on the news summary at 11:25 but Charlene on the 1:30

I do think they're spoilt for choice when it come to female presenters.. Charlene White, Nina Hossain, Charlotte Hawkins, Ranvir Singh (although I prefer the latter much more on GMB), Faye Barker could more than handle the evening national news bulletins IMO. Even Natasha Kaplinksy, who although personally not my first option, still a decent newsreader.
Whereas the male options at ITV are less abundant, James Mates would be the only real option for a main news bulletin, do think there is scope for him to move up as regular face should Mark or Alastair leave in the future. Steve Scott is okay and Chris Ship probably is the next person- however the latter two are rarely used on the 6:30 or Ten. Also I agree with GMc that I Matt Barbet is another very capable option to be regular presenter. With his few ITV News shifts while at daybreak I also thought they were lining him up for a main role.
Geraint Vincent is good enough to do the weekend daytime shift only! Having said that Faye, Sacha & Lucrezia, Faye are all excellent newsreaders! Whereas he is a too quality journalist and reporter... However his Newsreading falls shorts!
I think if a male left they would have to poach - getting Dermot Murnaghan back would be my choice, or otherwise always thought Charlie Stayt would fit in well with ITV News.
Dependent on who left though I think they might just opt to make one of the bulletins single-headed - both Mary and Julie are more than capable of anchoring one of the flagship shows single handed. It's also important nowadays to have presenters they can send on location for days or even weeks on end - in that regard Mark Austin would be difficult to replace but I guess the best bet would most likely be a correspondent who can easily switch from one role to the other.

Is there any chance he's likely to leave? Has this recent flurry of speculation been prompted by something in particular?
