I find quite fascinating at a time of DQF, there's been talks of pay freezes, job losses and various other matters affecting BBC News, and they are still hiring from rival organisations when in fact they've probably got the largest pool of producers, correspondents and journalists already
DV
If someone wants to develop reporting, there's no real avenue on ITV now, the limited current affairs output precludes this, and the National bulletins don't allow for this except on major news stories. Extensions are difficult and rare. The BBC however has Newsnight and the SDPolitics strands in addition to Panorama. The News Channel also develops stories. Specialist reporters can only salivate at these comparative opportunities, albeit with the DQF issue overhanging the business.

James Mates on the News at Ten tonight.

At ten may I add unlike the BBC, so ITV finally air on time compared to BBC, only because of Football though.

Natasha Kaplinksky is on now!
Is Natasha still apart of the presenting line up- can't remember last time she was on the news?

Don't see why they need her really, for the amount of times she presents the news, they might aswell use one of the reporting team- seems as though they are a familiar face- if there desperate. I assume Charlene/Nina weren't available tonight also?

Natasha is definately above Charlene in the pecking order and arguably Nina too when it comes to covering the evening bulletins. She seems to fit in at ITV News too - never really liked her on the BBC or C5 (though Strictly really harmed her credibility as a journalist, something we're seeing now with Susanna Reid) but she seems to fit in with ITV News - especially Alastair Stewart. Did they present London Tonight together in the past?

I don't think they ever presented LT together. I do echo that Natasha has settled in very well at ITV News and has seemed to lose the 'wow look at me' personality that she had previously at the BBC and C5...

Well I suppose with Charlene been an ITN contractor and Natasha been freelance I think we could see more of Charlene on the bulletins, Charlene has covered News at Ten a bit recently too. I do think she is good presenter too.
I do think Alastair & Natasha did host London Tonight together in the past, almost sure.

Natasha Kaplinski? she covered for Nina Hossain whilst she was on maternity leave, but they've not presented London Tonight together AFAIK. It's been single headed for quite a few years now.
