Normally the male presenters sit on the left of the screen and the female presenter on the right, all that is except for Alastair Stewart, who always sits on the right. Does anyone know why this is?

I believe Alastair's hearing isn't terribly good in one of his ears. So he sits on the other side so he can hear his co-presenter properly. That was what I was told from someone in the know, anyway.

Alastair's seating preference has been a hot topic on this forum for years. Laughing

So what happens when Mark and Alistair are on together or Mary and Julie - does the one who is most butch stay on the left?

I would assume it's something to do with Alastair as he's always sat on the right where as every other male presenter doesn't.

BBC NC does tend to have presenters swap sides, as the presenter on the left is considered the lead presenter and they take it in turns it seems.

I wonder if Nina is now sole presenter of the lunchtime news rather than sharing the role with Alastair?

Alastair is down on the schedule for a few lunchtime bulletins next week.

Ive got Al on monday, Nina on tuesday, Steve Scott on Wednesday... is it possible to get more than a week?

I've never seen Julie and Mary or Mark and Alastair together.

4 presenters in five days! It's about time they got someone regular on the lunchtime news!
Get Faye Barker in! She's twiddling her thumbs now the 5:30s been axed!
In all seriousness now, regardless who it is to a certain extent they need a new, regular main presenter on the lunchtime news.

I'm sure Julie and Mary hosted one Evening News together. Mark and Alastair have hosted a few, but always with one on location rather than both being in the studio - talking of which it'll be interesting to see the opening shot when that does inevitably happen as having the large screen to feature the on location presenter in the previous set worked really well for the intro.
