The revamp to ITV News will occur on Monday 16th January, with the 10.30 bulletin being renamed the Nightly News - the name of the short-lived 11pm bulletin back in 1999/2000.

As previously reported, Mark Austin will take over from Trevor McDonald on January 3rd, but the main changes to presentation will not occur until two weeks later.

The studio and titles will be given a "warmer" feel with "more people on view" - though blue will remain the main colour scheme.

Mark Austin is looking for a new catchphrase too for signing off the bulletins!

I'm glad; a new look to coincide with the ITV Network look perhaps. As I've said before, one of the reasons I believe people switch off is because the studio is very cold and uninviting. This "warmer" look may help to boost the figures.

the statement that it will feature "more people on view" is pretty ambiguous. Do they mean on the newswall itself - the atrium view we saw on the election coverage? Or do they mean on the actual titles. Or indeed, both?

More people... so they'll probably have an audience... on a merry go round... that gets faster and faster as the bulletin progresses... and then when Mark signs off he hits a button (virtual, on the news wall or as it will be called in the new Mark Austin era... the wall of news) and one member of the audience is fired at high speed across the studio slamming face first into the wall of news... as they slide down to the floor they turn to the camera and say "now that's what I call close up news" before passing into blissful unconsciousness.

I really doubt though there will be major changes to the titles after just two years.

I think that like the 1999-2004 lot, it'll just be a few cosmetic changes - possibly proper widescreen and of course, the change in logo, with possible introduction of individual branded programmes again.

The regions won't change the studio, but it wouldn't surprise me if we get brand new titles as generally regional news looks don't last anywhere near as long as the national news.

The "more people on view" comment is interesting. I think the newswall is staying, with the set being changed around it. There is also some suggestion in other threads the news channel will finally get it's own studio (assuming there is still a news channel of course!).

It's been said quite often the newswall could have a virtual newsroom background, but though I like it myself, the one used on Sky News Live at 5 has been criticised alot round here.

Of course they will; they're practically made up entirely of squares, not to mention the blue and yellow at the end of the sequence, which ITV is ditching.

The atrium used for the G.E. that has been suggested would look interesting and different. However, the ITV Newsroom is uninteresting and would become boring and perhaps even annoying is stretched out on that newswall.

There will be completely new titles for both National and Regional News
(though that is not to say that some of the elements of the current ones might not be retained!!), together with completely new graphic furniture and the rest of the housestyle. The studio will be 'refreshed'

Good that they are changing the name, the 'ITV News at 10.30' was always a bit strange sounding. Presumably this may mean the actual name of the bulletin will make a return on the titles, as if not there would hardly be a point in changing it.

So its been confirmed it's January 16th then. This date was mentioned months ago in an article, but nobody wanted to believe it, always saying it'd be the 1st Nov or the 2nd Jan!

I know this isnt entirely relevant but has anyone read any of Tom Bradby's novels? Are they any good?

I'm surprised they are going back to the "Nightly News" title. It just makes me think of the US programme of the same name......and we all know how cr@p theirs are! The parody shown on "Broken News" is unfortunately very close to the truth! Shocked

Though it was cleverly done, I didn't really like the atrium background - it was far too empty and grey really!
