"Senior correspondent James Mates drove some of studio team to standby studio in his car. The rest had to hail London taxis"

Nice to see everyone working together to get the programme on air Wink

haha!

Julie did sort of mention it - the shorter lenght of the bullietin , but no about the powercut ( although she did say Darkness a lot!! Laughing )
Wonder what'll happen to the London news? Will Julie read it from Millbank or will London viewers get Meridian?

Meridian it seems

Sangeeta Bhabra has welcomed viewers in London - seems to be the Meridian West version of the late bulletin I think.

Oooh Meridian Tonight here in London for obvious reasons

I wonder how ITN managed to play out their packages from Millbank, with everything being server based nowadays you can't just chuck them all into a bag and take them with you. Maybe they have a mirror of part of their server

TV Geek was right!! Smile

Oh ok - you'd think big building like Gray's Inn Road would have back up generators?

They probably do... doesn't mean they'll work and provide backup when you really need them though... as many other broadcasters have discovered in the past

thought they proberly did - suppose there is a chance that the power could go again ect.

I wonder what would happen if Millbank was also on the same power supply Laughing

I'm not surprised; they've done really well. The ITN facility at Millbank is absolutely tiny. There are a couple of very small CSO studios and a tiny gallery. I think the bulletin came from the larger of the two studios - the one normally used for Westminster-based interviews.

ITV playout might have a back up copy of the summary titles for situations like tonight, so maybe the titles weren't technically part of the programme but played in the same way as an advert/ident.

Well they did a great job in the circumstances - I wonder what will happen to the News at 5:30, not to mention the news summary before it. (That airs at 01:35 tonight. Scrapped or from Millbank?)

EDIT: not 01:35 after all - 02:20.

The gallery at Millbank has back-up stuff just in case. When I visited last year they had the then current music all lined up on the presets just in case of an emergency like tonight.

I hadn't realised Millbank was actually a back up studio, I just thought it was the easiest to use at such short notice. I just assumed that if they had more notice they'd go to The London Studios.

And it was the packages in question, I realised that after I posted the message Embarassed

I think this might be the studio's

http://www.millbank-studios.co.uk/index.html

That is the same building but I don't think it's the same facility. Millbank Studios is owned by ITV (Granada before that) The BBC, Sky and ITN all have their own section/floor the facilities on the website are the hireable ones.

Seems that all 3 use their respective parts of Millbank as a standby site for their news broadcasts, Sky broadcast from their last year when their sound desk blew up
