I'm not sure why but ITV News always bring out the best in terms of cutting through the story and getting to the heart, the controversy and the biggest questions during major disasters.

This time during the hurricane they hane definitely been the best at revealing the shocking ramifications of the aftermath of Hurrican Katrina. I seem to remember that the Asian Tsunami disaster brought out their best too - when the BBC's christmas time line up seemed to take priority over weekend style matter-of-fact summaries.

Does anyone else agree that ITV News seem to have more impressive, rhetorical, hard hitting and striking approach to huge stories?

This evenings ITV News about the ongoing chaos and tragedy just there was excellent.

The BBC seem to 'hover' around certain aspects and take forever to get to the heart of the matter. That's why I like ITV News. I totally agree with you.

I think we should just give up on the hurricane story and take a look at what else is happening in the world. Every day just another story about how desperate they are and how homeless they are, I'm sick of hearing about it. Move onto something else.

I know it's harsh but I agree. I am sick of hearing about it.

What an ignorant thing to say. Yes, let's ignore major news because it bores us, and move on to something less major. Do you know what news is? As has been said to me before, if you're sick of hearing about something, turn the TV off and do something else.

If there was this terrible disaster and its a shame but it was simply and act of god and theres nothing to debate then yes move on - but I don't think its been that simple

The American response to this tragedy has been a complete farce, quite an indictment of the worlds most powerful country, which is in the business of running a variety of wars and relief efforts around the world as fast as you like.

The huge dirty secret this disaster has uncovered, something quite taboo in America, its economy built on swathes of poor poeple without SUV's to outrun hurricanes - nevermind the racial dimension the story has taken.

Theres also the funding of the levee system story.

I personally think ITV News has been the best at letting the public into these dimensions of the story - as for the BBC Matt Frei especially has been excellnt too though. ITV's story about some of the world poorest countries heroically offering America aid was another interesting angle tonight too...

Sorry, I know it is a tragedy, but it's time the news moved on a bit. What else is there to discuss apart from despair and sadness. There's been a hurricane, thousands have died, most people know the raw facts by now.

Yes, but just because people know the facts, doesn't mean one of the most tragic events of the year (which is still unfolding) should be swept aside.

Yes, you're right. Maybe they shouldn't sweep it aside. However, it just seems as though it is being repeated. There are millions of people who lived in New Orleans, and there will be millions of different stories to tell, but we can't go through them all can we?

I don't quite understand this argument, the Aftermath of Hurricane Katrina story most definitely isn't over, not least the political ramifications.

Se my previous post for details

Well, I always find ITV News better at covering the bigger events. Perhaps it's because they usually cover it more from the human interest angle, rather than the political angle.

Though good, I wouldn't regard their coverage of Katrina as outstanding as usual (compared to the Tsunami, Beslan etc) - perhaps exactly because the story is developing into a huge political crisis, as much as a human crisis.

Their coverage was very good last week concerning the hurricane and dropped off over the weekend. They only seem to have two reporters out there at the moment but are still covering the story adequately but I wouldve expected a News Special or Tonight With Trevor Mcdonald by now.

Even SKY¦One have got Hurricane Katrina programme scheduled for tomorrow night - is it too early for that type of programming!?
