I think it looks brilliant. It's simple, elegant, bright and as bazinga says above, effective too!
Just me who thinks it looks really nice, what was everyone expecting? It fits in well with the ITV news brand. Simple yet effective set design.

Anything would have been an improvement on the 2010 set, it was truly awful. This one from that shot look quite nice though.

I don't think anyone's arguing that it deviates from the main ITV News brand or that it isn't a well designed set. It just comes across as underwhelming considering the scale of ITV's efforts on previous election nights (and those of the other broadcasters this year). Even 2010's dark and moody set still gave the impression of a sense of occasion.
Oh well, I suppose it's not right to judge everything from a screenshot - so I look forward to seeing it all in action next week...

It would have been a nice change for them to use a real set, to be honest, however they know full well they're not going to get the ratings.
Wouldn't be surprised to see Sky get better ratings than ITV, given the effort they're putting in.

I just hope they use more than just the three sides. As we saw back in December during Phil Schofields visit the studio is set up so the London and National sets are as one, not two separate sets in the same studio, so there really was potential to at the very least use both sides of the studio, either using the London part for further interviews or as the graphics areas. If Julie's graphics are pretty much restricted to just appearing on a screen it's not going to look great at all.

I don't think Sky come close to ITV's ratings historically.

Everything you say is fair enough, but, as others have stated, what's the point in ITV spending big money on a bespoke, one-off set, when most people will just be watching the Beeb on election night?

Well if we're using that logic - why should Sky waste its money on an election night set when even less people will be watching them than ITV? And what's the point in ITV having news bulletins when more people watch BBC News?
I wouldn't expect a bespoke election set to cost ITV a ridiculously huge sum of money, considering that they've long been masters of the art of VR.
