The exit poll wasn't released to nations and regions until 10pm when it went on network, so they would have used that time to build up and enter the data.
As is the law, it's illegal to publish the details even under an embargo someone could easily let it slip so by not sending it across wires would save that concern.
Just going through TV Lives caps of the night and ITV clearly the worst of the night graphics wise - for an organisation with so much experience in VR it's surprising they could get it so wrong. They should have ditched Julie's desk and given her a bigger space to work in. STV's effort looked much better.

Out of interest what was so wrong with them in your opinion brekkie?
I'm talking specifically about the graphics on Julie's screen (the others were fine) which were just particularly difficult to read IMO. It's never good to present from a screen at such a tight angle, and considering it was all VR it was inexcuseable really.

I agree the set was very underwhelming, but ITV's on-screen graphics were superb - clean, clear and concise. Easily the best of the night for me in comparison to Sky and the usual clunky BBC graphics. Didn't see STV's graphics on the night but I've just had a look at them on TV Live and they were terrible!
EDIT:
just saw your reply above, Brekkie. Didn't realise you were talking about the touch-screen graphics. I agree with you there - Julie looked rooted to the ground during some of those spots on the night and as such the constituencies were hard to read, even after the steadicam moved in closer. A larger screen would have been much better.
Thinking back to 1979, the BBC4 screening of the overnight coverage ended with some extra footage from the studio after they'd gone off air, which complicates our earlier theory about it being a recording of BBC1 output.
1979 was almost certainly a studio recording, but the news bulletin before it would presumably have come through the election studio as they cross over to it during the bulletin, and hand over to it at the end.
In recent years, for the elections, I've watched the BBC's coverage. I often feel the format flows better. The studio/camerawork is usually the most visually pleasing and they tend to utilise their team of presenters correctly. But i have to say i did find myself flicking between BBC and ITV. The sole reason being was because of ITV's segment in the opinion room with Nina Hossain. I thought she was ITV's best presenter on the night. I enjoyed the overall format, studio and camerawork/shots of this segment. Which was refreshing to see, rather than the standard predictable blandness and dull formality of the main ITV studio.

Nina is a fantastic presenter. She's been consistent ever since she joined ITV back in 2005? She used to be great doing the Evening News with Mark Austin.
Mod edit: removed frivolous comment about newsreader.
I find it very sad that this forum thinks mentioning someone's hair is worthy of being removed. How very sad. I think the moderators need to get an understanding on life in general. Do you think you're running some kind of dictatorship where you control the basics of free speech?
So you can't mention someone's hair in a light hearted comment, but you can perv over cameras and studios all day long and the ongoings of what's happening 24/7 at the BBC Newsroom?
I hope none of you who moderate here ever gets to be in any sort of meaningful power. You must be living in a fantasy world.
