Iv'e just got up and I tuned into channel 123 (on NTL) as I usually do for my Saturday morning news dose and totally forgot that it has all ended.
I feel even more sad today than I did yesterday.
I am just glad that Owen Thomas got a few jibes/jokes in and has always made it more watachable for the viewer!
Well done to all concerned for operating such an effective and efficient news channel with limited resources and money.
If any people from the news channel are reading this - enjoy your Christmas and relish the fact that BBC News 24 and Sky News could still learn a thing or two about 24 hour news channels (or 17 hours......or whatever it was!)

I was watching the closing of the news channel yesterday and my Dad walked in and saw the last couple of minutes, and he thought that ITN as a company was closing and there'd be no more news! I had to explain to him it was just the News Channel closing!

Certainly sounds a lot more authorative the ITN News rather than the ITV News in my opinion.
Yes 'Independent Television News News' is more authorative :

As long as that's your opinion lol. In reality it wasn't the best, as was pointed out in the tribute programme yesterday evening, it lacked resources etc.
I'm with Jonathan on this one!

It's really sad that the ITV News Channel has gone.
it was the best broadcaster compared to BBC News 24 and Sky.

The 'it was a mistake' option is winning at the moment
It's a pitty it couldn't have been rescued. Probably more than ITV, the closure damages ITN more, as they are now the only major news provider out of the big 3 not to broadcast a 24 hour news service

I don't normally go in for polls, but I've added one to this thread.
I've only given two options - I know many people's opinions will be more nuanced, but I was interested to see what people's gut reaction was.

Five...can you imagine that...although having said that, just a simple healdine service may be quite nice, like a division of SKY News but jsut bare healdines... like Headline News from CNN
Channel Four have made it clear that television news is not their priority...7/7 and they've said a news channel is not on their agenda.
All I can say is if only they'd used half of those angles normally

Does anyone think channel 4 or five will start a news channel?
