I wonder if...now that the ITV News Channel is no longer broadcasting, that the main ITV1 news bulletins should be rebranded back to ITN News bulletins? If the ITV News Channel was a failure, then does that mean ITV News on ITV1 is a failure too???

Will we see in January, the return of:-

"From the studios of ITN, the news with Alastair Stewart."?

Certainly sounds a lot more authorative the ITN News rather than the ITV News in my opinion.

Come on - lets see more ITN logos and endcaps and more mentions of ITN!!!! Very Happy

Would Channel 4 be happy with that? Their news is also produced by ITN.

They called it ITV News before they took over the channel.

On my Sky+ box, it cut to 'No satellite signal is being recieved' during the Dell ad rather than the error everyone else got. Not that anyone cares right enough.

Not checked the recording yet, i'll do that tomorrow but Merry Christmas Eve (in 5 minutes).

Well they were happy enough with it for 17 years!

Not that they really cared at the time, but it was a bit of a mistake to re-broadcast their coverage of 7th July in the last programme with the ticker and no mention that it was library footage. To anyone who turned over at that point it really did look like the whole of London had been shut down

Probably not their decision, or even action. Transmission of the channel, including adverts, was provided externally by NTL (although there were some signs a month or so ago that transmission had been moved to The London Studios - what was LNN - but that was never clear or confirmed).

AIUI the transmission of the channel moved from NTL not long after it became the ITV News Channel (when NTL lost their involvement in the channel). The ads were done in-house. Even if it was done technically by NTL, it's still up to those who run the channel when they schedule adverts.

It was odd to end with an ad break, but then the time had been sold a ong time before the closure was announced and once the slot is allocated or sold it's difficult to drop it

No, AIUI NTL/Aquiva continued to handle ad playout and transmission for a long time after NTL sold their share in the channel (which happened as late as April last year)

I don't normally go in for polls, but I've added one to this thread.

I've only given two options - I know many people's opinions will be more nuanced, but I was interested to see what people's gut reaction was.
