The ITV News Channel is no longer broadcasting

Well, it was a nice ending with a fitting monologue from Alastair Stewart, and it would have been poignant to end on the ITN endcap... but no, they had to squeeze some commercial juice out of it, and run some ads. Well, the channel finally went dead at just before 1800, cutting out in the middle of an ad, and at just after 1800, a slide appeared carrying the ITV News logo and the caption 'The ITV News Channel is no longer broadcasting'.

The end of another chapter in television history.

On Sky at exactly 6pm, it cut to the usual 'There's a technical fault with this channel' generated by the digibox

My sky box went from the middle of an advert to the sky "there is a technical fault with this programme please try later" caption


other channels says the same thing.

Here on Telewest, it had a ITV cap saying

THE ITV NEWS CHANNEL HAS CEASED BROADCASTING

for a second, then it went to a Telewest one, and suddenly for a second it went to an NTL one Then it went back to telewest. Strange.

And the reason for the closure of the channel? Mens and Motors!

Yeah, nice to see they cocked up the backtiming so it cut off the Dell advert
