Well, it was a nice ending with a fitting monologue from Alastair Stewart, and it would have been poignant to end on the ITN endcap... but no, they had to squeeze some commercial juice out of it, and run some ads. Well, the channel finally went dead at just before 1800, cutting out in the middle of an ad, and at just after 1800, a slide appeared carrying the ITV News logo and the caption 'The ITV News Channel is no longer broadcasting'.
