I hope that it closes a few minutes before 6 - otherwise Freeview viewers won't see it.
(I don't want to see it go incidentally)

The Freeview case is the most probable reason of why the shut down is occurring at 6pm - a good, clean exit of the NC,across all platforms.

So what are we expecting will happen on Friday. I was thinking the closure of the News Channel could be comparable to the closure of TV-AM. In that they knew about it and the closure was out of the hands of everyone who works there.
Maybe we could see a gathering of presenters and staff just like the end of TV-AM where they thank all their viewers and then wish us a Merry Christmas. There's a gallery shot with everyone waving etc.
Alternatively someone random like Susan Bookbinder will just do a regular bulletin and end with "Next from ITV is the ITV Evening News at 6.30 over on ITV1"

I don't expect to see anything special coming for the shut down, just a regular bulletin, and at around 17.50 (or at the end of every hour of the day) a special report on the life of the channel; besides, they have nothing to be merry and cheery about.

It's a totally diffrent scenario though... with TVam it was the end of a station, company and closure of the studios.

Can you imagine it - Leyla Deybelge carried away by an ITN bailiff! lol

I'm hoping for a big sit-in, with the News Channel team refusing to leave to allow the Evening News team in!

"I never seen one report from UTV on the channel?"
In the NC's lifetime (so far) I've seen four; two with Julie O'Connor, one with Tracey Magee and the other with Jane Loughrey.
Shame, as I'd like to have seen more from UTV and Channel instead of three Central News reports on Network News.

Who''s UTV's political editor/correspondent? I've seen him on the channel a few times, both packages and two-ways.
And both Lynda Bryans and Kate Smith have been regulars on the UK Today feature in the 3pm hour over the past couple of years.
