Although where do Channel 4 News direct people to, More 4 News I suppose now, but where after that?

It's a bit different with C4 though as their unofficial role in situations where the BBC and ITV carry rolling coverage is to provide an alternative to the rolling news - so they generally stick with their schedule with news updates between each programme.

The only time I recall C4 doing anything other than regular reports is on September 11th - but even then the rolling coverage stopped in time for Countdown!

As ITV are supposedly setting up this "breaking news unit" ready to broadcast open ended news coverage, will they give significant parts of the schedule up for events such as the Hemel explosion ?

It will be interesting what they deem to be important enough for the breaking news unit to kick in and interrupt the schedule on an ITV channel.

Nope. The majority of it will go back into mainstream ITV1 bulletins according to the press release.

Is it just me that thinks that sounds like ... how can I put it ... a big fat lie?

I'm assuming you mean you think ITV are lying by saying they'll re-invest, rather than meaning I'm lying by saying they'll - oh never mind.

I agree- they've made clear vague plans to put news on ITV2 and ITV3, which I think were described as "plans". To me they sound a bit like aspirational pipe-dreams....

....the whole point of this operation was to cut the utterly pointless and loss-making news operation to make space for more cheap, tacky, commercially viable pap.

Perhaps they'll put their journalist onto "celebrity newswatch" for ITV2- that counts as news output doesn't it?

I think all mention of "news reinvestment" will be forgotten within weeks.

Or in other words - "We knew that almost nobody would turn up to work over Christmas, so we had to close the channel before rather than face the embarrasment of a non-existent service over the Christmas period"?

Not only has Scott Chisholm's breakfast show been short-lived, but the earlier shutdown means that Andrew Harvey presented the first and last editions of his new weekend show in the space of just two days!

Can we therefore assume that Andrew Harvey & Jon Nicolson will not appear on the nc again...?

It also means the nc will close in the 2nd set, with Leyla (or a random) on for just half an hour...!

They've obviously not thought it necessary to change their listings on Sky Guide, which is still showing programmes for Fri evening, Sat & Sun Embarassed

I wonder when the impending end of the itvnc will start to be reflected on screen - some of the ticker promo's will be false now.

Also the last day in bound to be very wierd isn't it! Surely they can't go on the whole day without mentioning it.

The ideal situation to show itv what a mistake they made would be that at 5.55pm there was some huge breaking news.. i wonder, would they let the news channel keep rolling...?!
