One thing I'd like to see as a result of this is an improvement of the Weekend news schedule.

With regional and religious commitments gone, there is now room for a 30-minute Lunchtime News bulletin on Saturdays and Sundays - and I think the early evening bulletins could be improved.

Bring back the Sports presenter and integrate the regional news to make a full 30-minute early-evening bulletin, airing around 5.10pm on Saturdays, 6.30pm on Sundays (or fixed at 5.30pm on Saturday and Sunday, with an hour of regional programmes on Sunday from 6pm).

P.S. Has Jonathan Dimbleby been confirmed as host of this new "Meet the Press" thing. If not, let Alistair do it!

Yes we must see an improved weekend news schedule, maybe have the evening news 7 nights a week with Nina and Steve scott present it and Andrea Catherwood doing the new programmes on itv 2, 3, 4

I disagree. I dont think we need longer news bulletins at the weekend. Its fine as it is. I also prefer the regional bulletins seperate to the national ITV News.

I agree to disagree with you. Most people have social and leisure activities which they engage in during the weekend. Therefore, ITV would be wasting time and money on a full weekend service because they'd be missing a large portion of their target audience.

Sunday's early evening ITV1 news is very often the highest-rating news bulletin of the week on any channel.

However, the nature of weekend television is that generally there is so much rubbish on you find yourself flicking through the channels - and people are far more likely to stop and watch ITV News than The Planet's Funniest Animals.

The evening bulletins wouldn't really change much at all - I'd just say the regional news should be integrated into them like the weekday bulletins. The Lunchtime bulletins - well I think if ITV want to show they are serious about news they need more than a 5-minute bulletin before 5pm at the weekends. Saturday's would possibly be more difficult scheduled after CD:UK - but I think on Sunday sandwiching it in between The Championship (moved to 11.30pm) and the new Meet the Press show could work well.

I don't see Saturday being dificult at all because of CD:UK as that finishes at 12.30pm. This would be the perfect time for a lunchtime bulletin, and also itv News, so viewers know that no matter what day of the week they will always be able to find the lunchtime news at 12.30. However the disadvantages of this will become apparent when having sport on at a weekend such as F1. itv did experiment with a longer lunchtime news a couple a months ago on a saturday, it was with Lucy Owen and the programme lasted 15 minutes followed by a 10 minute regional summary.
