How exactly? His programme wouldn't fit in to any of the other ITV channels - can't really see an in-depth interview with a government minister sandwiched in between the soap repeats on ITV2, can you?
Even though it was hardly unexpected - i really am quite disappointed with this.

Well it works in between Paul O'Grady and Emmerdale on ITV1 currently, doesn't it?
Why not? I'm not suggesting a massive presence of ITV News on ITV, just one or two of the shows, such as Scott's and Alastair's to fill an hour on ITV2 and ITV2 respectively. Considering that they'ce just ditched one of their very own channels, a little reshuffle from ITV shouuldn't be that hard.

gmtv, a separate company, own the air time between 6.00 and 9.25 on itv1 and itv2, so unless itv plc were willing to dig into their pockets and buy some air time from gmtv, your ideas are very unrealistic.

Because it makes no commercial sense. The type of people watching daytime ITV2 (consisting of soap/chat show repeats) aren't likely to welcome the arrival of a heavyweight news programme with Alastair Stewart juxtaposed in the schedule. Think about it.

It is arfull that Itv exectives treat their news team like this, well this shows itv are no longer in the bussiness of producing good quality news for the nation, I just hope the good talent of the likes of Leyla and owen thomas and Chris rogers does not go to waste,
Lets hope that the rival stations may sign them up and the Itv1 news team begin to speak out about this

Theres an email from the ITN Cheif Executive on the guardian (http://media.guardian.co.uk/broadcast/story/0,7493,1667392,00.html) and it says "ITV is also planning a number of new initiatives, including possible brief news bulletins for ITV2 and ITV3"
So I doubt any of the current programmes will relocate here,

I don't think so. Who do you expect will make this News-Channel-news-that's-not-on-the-News-Channel given that 70 people are to lose their jobs?
It was a comment stating that I believe we'll still have the programming that matters from ITV News - Alastair Stewart for example, but I didn't literally mean we'd still have the NC.
I realise you didn't mean that we'd literally continue to have the News Channel, but you're still missing the point. You say that you believe "we'll still have the programming that matters from ITV News - Alastair Stewart for example" but I am asking you who will make this programming? ITV News are shedding all the existing News Channel jobs. You need people to make programmes. Now, if in the future the network consider that some sort of current affairs programme hosted by an ex-News Channel presenter should be commissioned, then a production team will surely be put together. But that is not on the cards right now. So it's not going to happen!

Put simply, we'll still have the ITVNC, just mixed in with a bit of (repeated) entertainment as well!
