It has just come up as breaking news online on sky and bbc news - i wonder if it will get a mention on the news channel itself?!

Poor Leyla & Andrew - they have been there from the beginning and rarely appear on itv1. It's a real shame!

No 'Feedback' slot with Scott Chisholm this morning - Alastair's staying on till PMQs.

Let's hope Scott's not been getting stroppy with Clive Jones et al in the newsroom...

Oh dear. What are they going to do? They have a lot of presenters on the ITV NC who are now surplus to requirement.

I would imagine a lot of them are freelance. And most of the fill ins have come from the regions so will just go back to there.

If you looked at the viewing figures for the NC they were pretty much surplus to requirement before!

I thought the News Channel doesn't employ anything like as many as 70 editorial staff....

I suppose. Still it would be a shame to lose a lot of them.

ITV has today announced it is to invest Ł2m in its news programming. The decision comes after a strategic review of the network's news services to evaluate the future requirements for ITV news up to 2010 and beyond.

A further consequence of the review is the decision to discontinue the 24 hour rolling ITV News Channel as the network increases its focus on developing new media solutions and strengthening ITV1's news offering.

As a result of this review ITV will make significant additional investment to enable ITV to expand its national and international newsgathering operations including:

· Introducing news bulletins on ITV2 and ITV3
· The creation of a news bureau in Beijing
· Expanded newsgathering in the North of the UK with increased emphasis on sports news
· Significant investment in newsgathering technology with live transmission capability
· An expanded news unit, including a “breaking news team” ready to broadcast open ended news coverage if necessary
Regional news will also be strengthened with the completion of the roll out of digital news rooms and continued investment in regional news.

ITV is also developing broadband and mobile on-demand services in recognition of the changing ways viewers will consume news in future.

Simon Shaps, Director of Television for ITV said: “The question we have asked ourselves is what does news look like in five or ten years' time? The answer is that it looks very different from the traditional 24 hour rolling news format that we are used to now. Increasingly viewers will want news on demand via a variety of different platforms and we are investing in the technology and expertise to deliver that.

We also asked if we could better serve the needs of our viewers by increasing investment in our flagship shows and as a result we are strengthening our core network news gathering operation.

Clive Jones, Chief Executive, ITV News and Regions said: “News remains at the heart of ITV's public service commitment which is why we need to safeguard its future health. By reinvesting this money in the flagship news shows and exploring new media opportunities we will guarantee that the ITV News stays powerful and relevant in the digital age.”

The only 'main' presenters this will affect will be...
Leyla Deybelge
Andrew Harvey
Lucy Alexander
Joyce Ohajh
Steve Scott

Although Lucy and Joyce are involved in the London News- however I can't see them coming in to do a 10 minute bulletin.

Steve and Leyla sometimes do the weekend news and other bulletins - but again not enough to do full time presenting.

And poor Andrew is only on the news channel - I think all the rest are freelance presenters
