Going of Topic for a moment, was just looking around The TV Room, and came to the five news pages. Looking at the last set whilst at ITN, and I wondered how they got the newsroom background, or is it real?
It's real. At the end of the final bulletin from ITN, you could see the team waving through the glass.
Interesting. Now that would be a nice studio for a news channel.
Were five/channel 5 always in the same studio (most Newsroom era), or was this a different studio that they used for the final look? If they were always in that studio, why didn't they use it all of the time?

They were always in the same place, studio 5, at the front of the ITN building.

Very interesting. I wonder why they don't make use of that studio. Presumebly it's not used at the moment, though I suppose that they may be using it for something.
For me the smaller, yet well designed studios work better.
Look at channel 4 news, the many angles, views and presenting locations in that little studio are far more impressive that what ITV have in theirs.
Now it would be nice if ITV News could use that. Technically it would be the same setup as with the current studio, they'd still have the desk, except it would be against the newsroom. Possibly having the special glass instead, so that they could put an image up behind, or have a big breaking news graphic.
Maybe more special glass down the other wall, or just a video wall behind the glass so that it can be used as a video wall, to throw to live links, or for a presentation point of view.

Something many of us said (and hoped) at the beginning of the year when Five News switched to Sky (going completly off topic, but is Five News in the old or new Sky News centre?)
What are ITN using the space for now - and also, we have Studio 1&2, and studio 4&5 - what's studio 3 - C4 News?

Being realistic, it's unlikely ITV News would get rid of the newswall for at least 3 more years, but as I've said earlier, the studio could be improved around the newswall - rather than the studio being just the newswall.
Not sure how big the rest of the studio space is, but if you could extend the studio forward to include some new presenting areas. Ideally parts of this area would have the newsroom as a backdrop.
As I've also said earlier, I'd also include a second studio in this area, just seperated from the main part by a sheet of glass. This way it can be used by the ITV NC ahead of ITV1 bulletins, but just feels like an extra part of the studio.
Yes, it's a shame they can't make better use of the building when it looks as good as this, instead of being stuck in a basement. Like they used to in the John Suchet Early Evening News / News at Ten era.
Think most of their space is just office though, so probably not easily adaptable. In the opening titles of News at Ten they used to pan through the newsroom, and then focus on an area which was the News At Ten set. Was that an illusion or was it really there in the newsroom ?
I loved the trailers that the ITN NC had of the presenters in the atrium, that was really cool. I seem to remember Alison Bell, Rachel McTavish and Leyla Daybelge being on one each, advertising the time they were on. It'd be nice to do something similar again.

Part of the problem these days is ITN don't own the building any more. They sold it to some other company and just rent office space - so there are limitations on what they can do there these days.
