I just read on digitalspy about the new 5 year contract for ITN to provide news for C4. But then I saw this about 1/2 way the report....

"It also provides for a number of new initiatives to "enhance" the existing news service: the C4 news website will be relaunched with more "in-depth" and interactive reports, an expanded reporter blogging service and more video; a new bureau will be opened in Beijing; and a video-based mobile service will be launched." - Digitalspy

The new bureau in Beijing - isn't this being funded by the savings ITV/ITN has made by the removal of the ITV News

I have re-posted this from the old locked topic (thanks tvmercia!) for one reason - it doesn't quite fit into the topic of C4's/ITN news extension, nor does it quite fit into ITV/ITN News thread. I did feel it was a mixture of both threads - therefore creating a new thread.

It does seem a bit funny that ITV close news channel and announce a new bureau in Beijing and then nothing is heard of it for months, until the extension of the C4 News deal with ITN. So are ITV/ITN syphoning money from C4 in order to help create the new beijing office?

I think both ITV and C4 have wanted a Beijing bureau for some time, with China's increasing global significance.

Makes perfect sense for ITN and ITV/C4 to co-operate on it, as there are obvious efficiencies to be made. Just like ITN's Washington bureau is the base for dedicated ITV and C4 correspondents and producers.
