I don't think they should use it for ITV News on ITV1, as for most of the time there are story specific graphics shown anyway
...which look worse than the blue squares, especially because the graphics don't quite meet the top/bottom of the wall.
If they wern't going to show story specific graphics they'd be no point having the newswall in the first place. Are you trying to turn it into BBC News or something where the entire backdrop doesn't provide anything to the viewer.
I would say it should be used for News Channel only as it would give a feel of being close to the newsroom breaking all the latest news. ITV1 bulletins are a polished final product so don't need a newsroom background, plus what with all the fancy graphics at the start and end, you'd never see it anyway

Yes I agree with Andrew. The ITV1 team (Lunchtime News apart) tend to be more creative with the newswall anyway, whereas the NC opt for the usual four squares to depict a story; the atrium view would be better suited to them.
It's all conjecture anyway, as i doubt they'll actually change anything

Looks good. I'd make a slight change though - I hate the gap at the top and bottom of the screens, so I'd add a fake balcony rail around the studio with the screens at the end resting on these - probably in widescreen.

I think the atrium background worked really well during the election programme, and could be exactly the sort of thing the News Channel needs. It's a common criticism of the News Channel that the lack of a newsroom-style background makes it seem cut off from the news.
I like the idea of having the atrium in the centre of the newswall, with two virtual 'screens' permanently at either end.
A very basic effort, but how about this sort of thing...

Would that be a problem?
They do it with London Tonight to provide them with the London Backdrop.

From the election programme, the bottom view at least was Live, so would it be a problem for ITN to have pernament live feeds? That would mean a pernamently fixed camera somewhere looking down on the floor.

i hadnt thought about this before, but the sofas etc that normally live where the election computers were might not look quite as impressive.

I just thought like having a pernament camera situated somewhere in the ITN atirum might be a bit of a nuisance. I get the idea how they done it now. They used their normal VR, but they digitally re-created the studio, and used real video, into a 3D grid, and obviously created the grid to the size of the atrium. I might not have explained it properly, but hopefully you get my idea.
