The site is far too big for BBC Channel Islands. They have a tiny amount of dedicated TV staff, and share a lot of staff with radio so it doesn't make sense for them to separate their TV and radio teams. The old Channel site is prime office space, so i imagine it'll be repurposed for that. Or knocked down. I don't know of any production company in the islands big enough to take it on.

Would I be right in saying that ITV Channel also have a really small team compared to those over the pond?

Also: What is the average audience for Channel News because I presume it's the only news broadcaster on the island doing a daily 30 min programme etc.. ?

Was the other studio at Channel mothballed or was it getting bookings from Indies? I guess if it wasn't HD probably not?

Is this the first appearance of the new central studio?

The team isn't actually that small for the size of the station. One reason being that they do have to do quite a bit of old-fashioned news gathering. Unlike all the other regions, they don't have any real 'newswire' service from PA, etc.

This article on their website has a team pic to give you an idea of numbers...

I guess Channel also don't have that many opportunities to share reports with a neighbouring region to pad the programme out, and need to have a presence in Guernsey as well as Jersey.

The Guernsey office I'm sure also covers the other islands of Alderney, Sark and Herm, which would be logistically harder if they were all based in the Jersey newsroom.

According to the 1977 IBA Yearbook, the studio at St Helier was 1000 sq feet (I assume that's the one
closing today ?), and a 900 sq foot studio in St Peter Port, (with microwave link for live inserts)

I don't know whether there's been any facility on Guernsey is recent years, but they were facilities some BBC English regions back in the 70s would have given a limb for !

That is big. Tyne Tees/Border have two studios, from back when their North/South programmes still existed and they moved out of Billingham. Because of cuts they only use the one studio which is like a shoebox for their programme. One if prerecorded earlier. The other is for Around the House, I believe. The blue screen is just inches away from the set and the cameras are literally just in the doorway.
