It looks like bank holidays rank higher than weekends when it comes to quality and quantity of regional news.

A normal length lunchtime bulletin today and a substantial 15 min bulletin (that actually lasted 15 mins) at teatime.

Tyne Tees padded theirs out with an inane VT about Britain's Got Talent with Meridian's Kerry Swain.

As did Calendar.

These syndicated regional reports seem to have got much worse recently, previously they could at least find some sort of link (albeit often very tedious) to each region it went out in, now they just seem like one big advertisement for something or other. I recall seeing one last week about a Take That musical and they went as far as having details on how to book tickets and a list of dates and locations scrolling across the screen on a ticker.

It does seem that a new law came into effect this year mandating that Take That must be on TV every 2.5 days.

They've always done that though, just that in the old days all local presenters would interview the act locally and just talk about when they are appearing in the region, now Lauren Hall interviews them once generically and puts some bespoke voice overs over the top mentioning the region. In the old days there might even have been a competition to win tickets.

I'm glad London avoids those banal pan-regional packages thanks to the obligation for all to be produced locally as the BGT package was straight out of London Tonight's 'Showbiz Tonight' era.

Nice to see a decent regional bulletin today on ITV. This is how it should be done every Saturday and Sunday IMO. They also have a lunchtime bulletin on Bank Holidays.

For a few minutes this evening, newsreader Charlene White was simultaneously on both BBC One and ITV(1)!

(As a contestant on a repeated "Pointless Celebrities" episode, and presenting tonight's ITV News live).
DJ Dave and bkman1990 gave kudos

That was strange. Rohit Kachroo reporting live from Westminster, he just lost it. Stumbling his words and looking quite disorientated. Mary had to cut in.

Was very strange and unlike him. Makes you wonder if something was occurring in his line of sight.

Remember he couldn't hear the studio etc. If there is a lot of feedback that does confuse people.

Hearing yourself back with a delay will make most people stop in their tracks, it's incredibly confusing, but surprisingly easy to set things up so it happens.

Remind me not to scan Twitter when something happens like this again. Just lots of people making fun, wow what a fail! etc. No regards to the man's health.
