Confirmed that Rageh Omaar will be who presides the Big Ben bongs tonight, after Alastair brung us the bongs for many years.
Unfortunately that already means I won’t be watching them on ITV this year as it won’t be the same. Would have liked Charlene or Mary to do them but alas I’ll be joining Simon McCoy on the BBC News Channel myself.

I assume nothing official fireworks wise is happening in London anyway. Is Big Ben even chiming considering it now only does for certain events - you'd think to keep people away from Big Ben they wouldn't, but then again it is a significant event, and I suspect the Brexiteers will want it bonging away an hour earlier too.

Think that was purely a London Eye social media thing. There's been tests for a light show around London Bridge which has either been pre-recorded or will be live tonight, presumably on BBC One's "Happy New Year Live!" programme rather than on ITV News.
