There’s no travel corridor to the USA currently so we can expect Tom and all who travel out to be off-screen for a number of weeks after this having to all self isolate.

Journalist's I believe are exempt from that rule as 'key workers'

I assume ITV (News) will probably be announcing their coverage next week as they have waited as long as they can. What might complicate the planning not just for ITV but for all the Uk Broadcasters wanting to send people out is, depending on how election night and the voting situation pans out, how messy it could get with potential legal battles.

I wonder what GMB might do as there set is flexible enough that doing 6-10am on the morning after with a bit of relighting of the set. They might send Piers & Susanna out to NYC again or maybe DC. Didn't Ranvir and quite a few of GMB'a correspondents fly out last time so I suspect GMB might have to rely more on ITV News and that's without mentioning Ranvir not being able to go as she's on Strictly

Not only is that not true but even if it was it wouldn't be worth the guaranteed negative response from the audience if they allowed him back in the studio within 2 weeks of being on air in the USA. That being said some people sent to the US may be able to file reports from home during the 14 day period of isolation so its not guarenteed that they'll be completely absent.

There has also been criticism of some Sky presenters on social media, as currently a UK citizen cannot just travel to America - unless they are a permanent resident, have joint citizenship, or have a valid visa.

Those flying out to the US will also have to follow CDC advice on arrival, which typically means being required to self-isolate on arrival.

I can’t imagine even if journalists were exempt that ITN would want them to come into work and be in the same newsroom and studios of other people without self isolating.

Journalists in many jurisdictions if they have active press credentials even if they’re just an ITN ID they’re considered essential in the US. There’s no specific rule but it is common and accepted in Washington DC. One station WDVM (which was part of the Washington DC - Frederick DMA ((beyond me why it’s one market as the mountains block DC coverage)) covering western Maryland, Virginia and WV) made News IDs for their back office staff to come to work in Washington DC.

In NYC there was a degree for journalists being essential workers.

It’s remarkable how people are so prone to criticising without knowing the facts. For clarity, here’s the situation for the UK broadcasters.

The current rules state that those who’ve been on UK soil in the last 14 days aren’t allowed into the US. At all. No isolation rules, you’re just not allowed in.

However, the US has rightly granted exemptions to certain journalists covering the election, which means they’re allowed into the country quarantine-free. Because let’s face it, the virus levels in the UK v US means quarantining is practically meaningless.

When returning to the UK, they will all have to self-isolate like the rest of the population.

Not sure where you’re getting that from. It certainly wouldn’t give you any sway at the border.

I thought there was discussion about also working in the US. I was saying that they’re considered essential in the US.

Should also point out that they’ve not granted this exemption in full to all applicants - some colleagues were granted an exemption to enter the US, but have had to quarantine on arrival. Whilst others have not had to quarantine.

Notice that today's lunchtime news is being shown at 2pm, which is later than the usual slot of around 1pm.

They're showing a repeat of Love Your Garden at 1pm, so can't understand why they're not showing the news before it.
