I know it's supposed to be Good Friday, but I'm not sure many people will have noticed the difference over any other day during the last couple of weeks.

I was therefore quite surprised that this evening's 6:30 and 10pm ITV bulletins have been reduced to only 15 minutes each. This is on a day when the death toll from COVID-19 has hit its highest level, and ITV aren't exactly providing much other coverage on the subject.

It seems an odd choice to me.

Well Weekend bulletins on all channels are still weekend length and the virus doesn’t stop at the weekend either?

Not on the BBC today, business as usual on a bank holiday.

Regions have been cut though.

As much as every day is a Bank Holiday for many at the moment I think it is important people try as much as possible to have a weekend and somehow probably make more of Easter than perhaps they usually would. Easier said than done of course in the current circumstances but TV has a part to play in that and the BBC at least are putting a bit of effort in to differentiate it by using the Indianna Jones films across the weekend.

I don't think COVID-19 lockdown is seen by anyone as "day-after-day of bank holidays". What people normally do at Easter is spend time with their relatives and have extra time off work for leisure to visit places. It's a rather irrelevant analogy at the moment when many people don't know when they will even be going back to work.

Many of the 100s of TV channels available don't change their schedules during holiday periods anyway, but I think it's noticeable that the main PSBs aren't really pushing any Easter message.

I suspect that many parents will have already sought out sources for films/box sets over the last 3 weeks. Netflix have reported a 15% increase.

I have been off work for most of this week as I normally would be for Holy Week. I have watched Easter Masses streamed online and will continue to over the rest of the weekend.

I can see good and bad points to reduced news today and on Easter Monday.

Good like has already been said as giving the main points and shorter bulletins.

Bad in the fact that last year for most of the Bank Holidays they kept to the normal 6PM hour of news. It seemed odd in that case not to continue this time.

We are in difficult times and it is best to try to contrite as normal and we will get through this eventually 👍

ITV regional news has been cut down on weekends and lunchtime bulletins during the week. Today the lunchtime regional bulletin was the usual shorter bulletin the same as other days at the moment. And the evening bulletin was more like a normal weekend bulletin about 6 minutes long. Usually on Bank Holidays these days we get the full half hour regional news or at the very least a proper 15 minute bulletin so they are definitely cutting down.

Nothing at all to be tweeting about. Some DJ starting a mix with the ITV news theme and then into a song. It's on catch up.

Didn’t even mix well.

Just watched the regional opt out from Tyne Tees. It was so short - about 3 stories. It seems irresponsible in the current climate to get staff in just for that.

You’ll find the reduced bulletins will protect staff - bulletins will not have a reporter in. The weather is shared between few presenters as per usual. It’s better to still output some form of regional news bulletin than none at all

I'm guessing not to have some form of local news would go against the PSB requirements. AIUI Leeds continuity hosts weather for YTV, Granada and Tyne Tees/Border

I disagree. There was absolutely no need to have regional news today for the stories that were covered, and I'm sure the PSB requirements could be lifted in the current circumstances when lives are at risk.
