I should think so - he hasn't been on for a couple of days - so his probably heading back. Although I'm sure when his been away on reports before - he sometimes has a week off to 'rest'
So I assume Mark will be back in London on Monday also is it just me or is Romillys left eye a whole lot smaller than her right

ITV News is set to take over the GMTV Newshour. I wonder which newsreaders will finally get a full time job, or indeed if Alastair will be stretched across even more bulletins

Why is everyone acting as if this is definitely happening? All we do know for
certain
is that talks are ongoing about the format of the breakfast programme. For all you know, GMTV could be staying as it is for many years yet. I doubt staff at ITN have even been contacted about taking over news slots in GMTV at this stage!

ITN providing the news wouldn't necessarily lead to changes to the main presenters, while reporters might loose their jobs it doesn't mean the 6 - 7 slot would have to be ITV News branded (I would imagine given GMTV is successful they'd want to stick with it rather than a news programme).
The reason Penny and John might loose their job is the number of presenters already at GMTV and ITV's desire to cut costs. Penny was on the Alan Titchmarsh show today and managed to skirt around the issue everytime it was brought up.

This is ITV we're on about. They'd sell their own grans if it meant they could cut costs. Its inevitable its going to happen, we didn't need a paper to put the rumours into circulation. From a business perspective, if ITV can cut costs by merging 2 news operations into one, then of course they're going to do it. If you genuinely believe GMTV News will be spared despite having zero reputation anymore whilst ITV are trying to stamp 'ITV1' allover their news/current affairs output then you may be in for a shock.

You may be right - it does seem likely that ITV News will have a presence within GMTV at the very least, considering ITV's wishes to cut costs. But all I'm saying is that it's wrong for people to jump to conclusions and to believe that the speculation from certain sectors of the press is certain (in fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the printed story from "insiders" originated from the discussions on this very forum...)

Rumours of ITN involvement in GMTV have been circulating within the company for quite a while.

It may have been on London Tonight but this evening the newsroom did a bit of a keep uppy thing. Alistair Stuart was in there and Phil Reay Smith looked as if he was gonna burst out laughing while a london reporter Lewis Vaughaun Jones was doing some kick ups. Worth a look for a laugh
