I thought it was a very good edition of the News at 1:30. Glad they kept going back to the 'breaking' story about the Hoon/Hewitt letter to Labour MPs and Chris Ship was on fine form at Westminster. Note no other news was covered other than this story and what both BBC and ITV are calling 'the big freeze'. Becky Mantin in the studio yesterday as well as today - is she a Met Office forecaster or just a presenter?
I'm glad though that ITV aren't doing a news special like the BBC - I didn't know heavy snow in the north wasn't as important as heavy snow in the south (!) ...

Becky is just a weather presenter but with Met Office training.
Yes, clearly the running order was being decided whilst on air, as first Geoff Hoon and then Patricia Hewitt became available for interviews.
As BBCNicky has pointed out, the whole bulletin was taken up by just the two stories, which was unusual, but the immediacy of the Hoon/Hewitt letter story made for an interesting programme and Katie did indeed handle it very well.
(I hope she didn't have any problems getting down to Guildford for this evening's London Tonight OB.)
Wondering whether tonight's news being dominated by just two stories whether ITV might be best of (ratings wise anyway) leading with the snow at 10pm and hope to catch those tuning into the BBC News only to find out they've got real news, so switch to ITV instead if they carry the snow stuff first.

I do get your point . Although they led with it on the 6:30 and they were planning to do it from Downing St - wether that shows it's not as big as the snow , I don't know.
Im glad to see that ITV News covered the 'leadership challenge' story today in much more detail than the BBC. It seemed that the BBC was more interested in the snowy weather than the 'leadership challenge' story and id rather see a lot more coverage on the 'leadership challenge' than the snowy weather.
