ITV News: Countdown to 2010 was watched by 1.9m viewers (11% share)

New Year Live on BBC1 was watched by 8.4m viewers (49%) with a peak of 10.9m (59%) at Midnight

These figures will include Scottish viewers who were watching other programming on BBC1 Scotland and STV

I just think it's one of those times that ITV will never win - For the World cup final for example 3 times as many people watch BBC rather than ITV.

I suppose ad's or no ad's - what one would you pick and as itvnews fan says It didn't have a good lead in - A repeat of Ad of the Decade shown about 2 weeks ago.

I wonder as Macalalo has posted weather or not the website will relaunch tomorrow?

There's always a fair bit of inertia and the BBC tends to be the default choice on such occasions but this year's offering from ITV didn't really work for me. It was caught somewhere between a regular news bulletin and a recap of the year, and I think it suffered for that. A separate, short news bulletin an hour or two earlier probably would have been more appropriate.
It was also unfortunate that they had to cut off the fireworks given that display got better as it went on.

that's what we was saying a few days ago - it was news, recap of the year and firework display.
I also , as said previosuly , thought that cutting the fireworks off wasn't the greatest idea.

Trouble is when ITV spend a lot more on it and put a lot more effort in with Elton John and Take That the last couple of years they still got thrashed in the ratings too.

I don't think the ITV News programme was a bad idea, but it should have been made to feel a bit more special with it's own look for the occasion, and the news segment should have come across as a summary within the programme, rather than the programme itself.

I defiantely agree with you point about the Take that types shows - there really good - but don't deliver the viewers.

Also Alex forrest just posted this on her twitter

Being pregnant am interested in Tory policy on maternity networks. Sounds good in theory but still unsure how wld work in practice.

I know it's completely bizarre that ITV haven't launched the news website yet, but perhaps you shouldn't assume when it's going to launch - then you won't get disappointed? Rolling Eyes

I don't know where you got the info that the site was launching this week from.

In broadcasting terms "early 2010" could mean anytime in the first six months really!

I've seen various tweets from @itvinsider saying the same things when people have asked.
I wasn't expecting it to launch today - the first proper day back after the christmas break - Thursday seems to be a fiar bet. They seem to do thinks on Thursays - most of the Regional revamps were on Thursdays IIRC. Also fits in with Tonight launch.

Early 2010 means up to the end of March surely? Anything after id describe as mid 2010.
