No, the belfry wasn't shown, shame really as apparently cameras aren't normally allowed up there . I watched BBC1 and Sky+ed ITV as I wanted to see both their efforts, it seems ITV1 were in a bit of a rush to get the programme off air as they cut hastily from the ITN Happy New Year endcap to the weather sponsor sting.

Meanwhile, over on BBC One, the programme ended with no year on the endcap, which was odd!

seemed like both effects were a bit half assed - Although as always Alastair does always end it wih some nice words!

what i don't get is if they can show 3/4 minutes - then why not all ( except if it's BBC pictures - even though surely they could of shared them!) it not as though it would harm the BBC viewing figures - most will tune in to BBC1 by default!

These were ITN pix - from about 4 separate locations. The reason only 3-4 minutes were shown, is because the bulletin had to be off air by a certain time for scheduling reasons. I think 3-4 minutes was ample though?

There was a separate ITV News bulletin on STV at 10.10pm on Hogmanay, lasting around 7 minutes.
Just incase you're interested. LOL Cool

Happy New Year!

so if these were ITN pix - surely they could have shown the film 5 minutes later, it's not as though whatever afterwards had to be on at 12:05 rather than 12:10 - seems a bit stupid to me !

Did anyone else see the 5.30am news today? They showed the wrong opening titles. They showed the very first titles used with the new look: http://www.itvgallery.co.uk/page22.htm they showed the ones with the globe and the polar bear Laughing

I don't think it's about rights or scheduling - it's just that fireworks on TV soon get very repetitive, and if you've seen the first few minutes (especially of London's pathetic efforts), you've seen it all. Indeed I bet many people wait for Big Ben to chime, say Happy New Year and then head straight to bed!

Do they. Oh sorry, don't normally watch the 4.30 news.
Seems a bit weird. If they don't want to change the images for the morning news, then why not just use the same opening the short news bulletins use?

No surprise really they'd have a generic version (C4 do too, but I think it's only been seen once) - more surprising really it's not used more - at weekends for example, and over Christmas.

Did they have full titles on Christmas Day, or just use the summary titles instead?

Summary titles only used at lunchtime, the two evening bulletins both used the full title sequence.
