Overnight news summary is gone too, BBCNicky.

Thanks Garry - just as I suspected. To be honest I'm surprised it lasted so long, I'd have thought the overnight summaries would have been axed years ago. There can't be much more than a couple of people actively tuning into night-time ITV, surely? Laughing

very slippery slope, that kind of logic. what next? less than a million watching the Lunchtime News, so what's the point..?

Well, my original post was actually a sly dig at 21st century ITV. I assume the overnight summaries lasted as long as they did because they possibly counted towards fulfilling a news quota, and if that is the case I'm surprised ITV never lobbied Ofcom years back and ask for them to be ditched as "no-one watches them".

In fact, I'd wager that those brief summaries were watched by less people than those who tuned into the 5:30am news.

I'd love to know what the figures were for the overnight summaries lately, if any such stats exist...

It never really made sense that they remained yet the afternoon summary was axed years ago, even though surely that was much less effort to get to air considering it aired at 3pm rather than 3am.

Notice how the mixer there is also doing a little sound mixing as well.... that's because for the past few years there has been no sound mixer on the programme. Ordinarily, the sound mixer would be in the sound control room just behind the person recording that video.

Vision Mixing, Directing AND sound op - what a joke! Rolling Eyes

What you mean is "what a skill".

Yes, if they can get away with just one person doing the job, I don't see the problem.

Jack of all trades, master of none. Good for them and I understand some organisations have to run things that way for financial reasons but I can't help but feel bad for all the sound ops, vision mixers and directors that have lost work in the industry because one person is doing all of their jobs.

That's perhaps a little bit rude! It was one programme out of many we make and we run full and very highly-skilled crews on the vast majority of our output. Multi-skilling is a fact of life in the modern industry, although I suspect it would be fair to say that ITN use less of it than some other broadcasters...

Please excuse me I hadn't intended to be rude. I agree ITN has a highly professional team of talented production staff who produce outstanding news and current affairs programming; its just a shame that a 'director' (TD) has to operate the sound desk as well as vision mix the programme. Presumably there is no vision control or lighting director either. I do get it though its 5:30am why throw resources at it.

They have scaled back regional news bulletins this Christmas on ITV1. As well as no bulletins at all on Christmas Eve which also occured last year, there are also no late bulletins today or tomorrow either, whereas there usually would be.

Odd intro on the 18.45 bulletin with no title card and instead a wide shot of the studio with the music over, along no voiceover (which sometimes does happen).

Yes, they've done that intro before but I think it works much better with the jib rather than the still shot, only because the camera's so far back on the still shot. I know we found out from Matt that the camera can't be moved more forward, but perhaps zooming in a bit would make it look less cold and vast? I suppose it doesn't matter anyway - there's only just less than three weeks left of this look. I won't be sad to see it go.

Before I forget - did anyone spot a festive ITN endcap this year...? Laughing

I think it's been that way a couple of years now.

Why can't the jib be used at weekends and bulletins? is it staffing issues?
